About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Laboratory Technician to join our team at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (IIT) in Genova, Italy. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the research activities of our NanoBioMaterials group, led by Dr. Nicola Tirelli and Dr. Pier Paolo Pompa.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain the general efficiency of the laboratories hosting the two groups, ensuring routine and extraordinary maintenance is carried out on the instrumentation available, and organizing appropriate training for the operation of such instrumentation.
  • Support the members of the two groups in the use of the above instruments, including the direct operation of some of them.
  • Cooperate in the organization of routine laboratory activities, including weekly cleaning, organization of lab roles, labeling of communal structures, and appointment of managers for each instrument.
  • Support the organization of consumables and stocks, ensuring adequate positioning within the laboratory spaces and in the storage rooms, and keeping the technical documentation updated.
  • Contact suppliers of consumables and laboratory equipment, requesting quotations and evaluating the purchasing activity in compliance with the technical specifications and timing necessary to research activity.
  • Create purchase requests according to the Foundation's rules, using the SAP management system for finalizing purchase orders in collaboration with the relevant administrative figures.
  • Control incoming goods, verify their consistency with respect to the purchase requests made, and organize their sorting, placement, and cataloging.
  • Prepare, label, and dispose of chemical wastes, including their delivery to the temporary warehouse.
  • Install and maintain laboratory equipment in cooperation with the technical facility of the Foundation.
  • Work together with other laboratory technicians to standardize the guidelines for laboratory operations within the two groups and in other research lines.
  • Prepare the appropriate documentation for sending/receiving goods and/or moving/handling of laboratory equipment.
Requirements
  • A Master's degree in Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies, and Biotechnology.
  • An experimental Master's thesis.
  • Experience in the operational support to a chemical or biomedical laboratory.
  • Good command of spoken and written English (minimum B2).
  • Familiarity with basic IT software, including Word, PowerPoint, and in particular Excel.
  • A cooperative approach with stakeholders.
  • Accuracy and good analytical skills.
  • Good communication and time management/prioritization skills.
Additional Skills
  • Previous experience in the use of chromatographic techniques such as HPLC.
  • Previous experience in spectroscopic analytical techniques.
  • Experience in the public or private research sector.
  • Documented knowledge of the technical and legal aspects relating to safety in the workplace.
  • Strong problem-solving attitude.
  • High motivation to learn.
  • Spirit of innovation and creativity.
  • Ability to work in a challenging and international environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a highly interdisciplinary environment.
  • Familiarity with data analysis software such as Origin or Prism.
