The Amazon EU Design and Construction team is in search of a skilled EU Fire Safety Operations Manager to facilitate the growth of the Amazon network.
The Fire Safety Operations Manager will establish and oversee a uniform approach to fire safety engineering strategies across the EU nations for Amazon's REI and compliance initiatives.
The ideal candidate will possess an extensive understanding of professional-level fire protection engineering services, including life safety code consulting, sprinkler system design, and performance-based fire engineering solutions.
We seek an individual with substantial experience in warehouse or industrial operations permitting, as well as expertise in fire protection strategy or design.
The role will be based in Germany or Italy, with 40% of the time dedicated to travel, either domestically or to other EMEA countries.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in resolving design challenges, which may involve conducting field investigations or inspections, detailed reviews of designs created by others, or coordinating specific design elements within a project.
- Identify relevant codes and standards to reference when addressing inquiries.
- Conduct analyses of building codes, egress strategies, fire detection and alarm systems, smoke control systems, and basic sprinkler systems.
- Define and drive improvements aimed at establishing a standardized fire strategy across Amazon Fulfillment Centers in the EU.
- Perform onsite evaluations of fire strategies in accordance with industry standards during construction, post-construction reviews, and throughout the lifecycle of the buildings.
- Prepare outlines for Performance-Based Design.
- Review proposed designs for compliance and effectiveness.
- Provide strategic and tactical guidance on the implementation of fire safety strategies.
- Assess sites in operational environments for regulatory compliance.
- Conduct risk assessments for operations and critical business partners.
- Analyze post-event scenarios and derive lessons learned.
The primary focus of this role is to deliver a performance-based fire safety strategy for the Amazon building network. This includes extensive interaction with Amazon stakeholders from the initial concept design phase through to delivery and the lifecycle of the building.
The position allows for independent work and the provision of expert fire safety opinions in both daily operations and future concept designs across a wide geographical area.
About the TeamThe Fire Strategy Team is part of Amazon's Global Engineering Services (GES) division.
This small, dynamic team shifts between Performance-Based Design and Risk Assessment, contributing to product assessments, legislative guidance, and the development of complex equipment specifications.
As a vital part of this team, there is significant potential to enhance the safety and experience of Amazon buildings and associates.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor's degree.
- Demonstrated knowledge of EU building regulations and fire safety standards.
- In-depth understanding of fire engineering principles and practices in industrial and logistics settings.
- Proven track record in navigating complex permitting processes.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction and negotiation with both technical and institutional stakeholders.
- Ability to cultivate trustworthy relationships with both private and public partners.
- Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in another EU language is required, with Italian or German preferred.
- Experience in fire engineering within EU countries.
- Specific fire engineering experience in Germany or Italy.
- Knowledge of CFD modeling and its applications.
- Working knowledge of sprinkler codes, design, and installation.
- On-site experience in conducting fire safety assessments.
- Outstanding ability to anticipate challenges, with an entrepreneurial mindset and a drive for innovation.
- Proficiency in German, French, Polish, Arabic, or Turkish is considered a preferred qualification.
