Job Description

Smiths Interconnect, a leading provider of technically differentiated electronic components, is seeking a talented Process and Automation Engineer to join our team.

As a Process and Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining manufacturing processes for connectors. This will involve monitoring product assembly, assessing processes, taking measurements, analyzing data, and testing manufacturing methods in compliance with lean concepts.

You will implement manufacturing processes received from Manufacturing engineers and optimize existing processes in the plants. Your role will also involve applying knowledge of operational review, process review, fabrication methods, tooling, and materials, as well as soliciting observations from operators and other engineers.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience (5 years) and 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in small to medium companies in the role or similar.

You will also need experience in process design and evaluation for electromechanical product realization companies, process implementation, lean, cost assessment, process improvement where manual labor is a big part of the process, transition from manual to automated processes, special processes (gluing, soldering, plating), and proficiency with Solidworks CAD.

Additionally, you should have strong practical and problem-solving skills, be fluent in English, and proficient in presenting technical presentations and operational reviews (P-FMEA). Six Sigma Green Belt certification is preferred.

The successful candidate will be a strong communicator and team player who can work collaboratively with production planners, schedulers, and internal technical services to ensure that released products have adequate BOM, routings, and process documentation.
