Job Summary

Villanova University seeks a highly skilled and experienced Stage Manager to join our theatre team. As a key member of our production staff, you will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of our productions, including set up and breakdown of rehearsal rooms, recording blocking and choreography notes, and coordinating with actors and crew members.

Key Responsibilities
  • **Production Management**: Serve as the primary point of contact for production-related matters, ensuring smooth execution of rehearsals and performances.
  • **Rehearsal Coordination**: Set up and break down rehearsal rooms, manage rehearsal schedules, and coordinate with actors and crew members to ensure timely completion of rehearsals.
  • **Communication**: Develop and maintain clear and concise communication channels with actors, crew members, and production staff to ensure effective collaboration and problem-solving.
  • **Technical Operations**: Oversee the technical aspects of productions, including lighting, sound, and special effects.
  • **Stage Management**: Manage the stage crew, including ASM scheduling, prop tracking, and costume management.
  • **Meetings and Minutes**: Attend weekly production meetings, take detailed meeting minutes, and distribute them to relevant parties.
  • **Training and Development**: Train and mentor students in stage management techniques, including script analysis, blocking, and cueing.
  • **Project Management**: Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks and deadlines to ensure timely completion.
Requirements
  • **Education**: Associate's degree in Theatre or related field.
  • **Experience**: 3-5 years of professional experience as a stage manager, with a strong background in theatre production and management.
  • **Skills**: Strong attention to detail, excellent communication and organizational skills, ability to work under pressure, and experience with stage management software and equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • **Education**: Bachelor's degree in Theatre or related field.
  • **Experience**: 5+ years of professional experience as a stage manager and stage management educator.
  • **Skills**: Strong multi-tasking skills, experience with calendar creation and meeting management, and familiarity with AEA guidelines.
Physical Requirements and Unusual Work Hours

This position requires occasional exposure to loud noises, theatrical haze, and flashing lights. Evening and weekend work is required, with long periods of sitting and movement of theatrical set pieces.
