RINA is seeking a Naval Ships Surveyor to enhance its operations within the Marine Special Ships Excellence Centre Division.
Role Overview
As a surveyor in a classification society, you will play an essential role in safeguarding the safety, compliance, and quality of maritime vessels and assets. Your primary responsibilities will focus on ensuring that ships adhere to international standards and classification society regulations. #LI-MC1
Core Responsibilities
Regulatory Adherence: Maintain strict compliance with classification society guidelines, international laws, and statutory obligations during inspections and surveys. Implement new regulations as they are introduced. Technical Proficiency: Offer specialized technical guidance to clients, shipowners, and manufacturers regarding classification, design, construction, and maintenance issues. Stay updated on the latest industry advancements and technologies to apply innovative knowledge in your surveys. Problem Resolution: Serve as a problem-solver, addressing technical challenges that may arise during surveys or client interactions. Quality Control: Enforce quality assurance protocols in survey procedures to maintain the highest levels of accuracy and reliability in inspection documentation. Client Guidance: Inform clients about classification society procedures, regulations, and the significance of compliance for safety and operational effectiveness. Reporting and Documentation: Utilize standardized templates for inspection reports, ensuring clarity, consistency, and promptness in documentation. Leverage digital tools for effective management and reporting of documentation. Team Collaboration: Work closely with colleagues, both within the classification society and externally, to exchange knowledge, experiences, and best practices. Actively engage in team discussions and contribute to a cooperative work atmosphere. Ongoing Professional Development: Participate in continuous professional growth to remain informed about evolving industry standards, technologies, and best practices. Pursue relevant certifications or qualifications to enhance your expertise. Ethical Standards: Maintain the highest ethical principles in all professional dealings, ensuring integrity, transparency, and fairness throughout the survey process.Educational Background
A Master's Degree in Naval Engineering is required.
Experience Requirements
• Typically, a minimum of 3 years' experience as a Junior Surveyor or at least 5 years' experience in engineering or survey roles within the marine sector or a related field.
• Proficiency in English relevant to classification, statutory certification, and related services, as well as for future assignments.
• Capability to develop a comprehensive understanding of RINA Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and related instructions, along with the RINA Employee Safety Policy.
• Ability to interpret engineering plans and possess foundational knowledge of shipbuilding practices and operations.
• Competence to conduct either:
1) New building surveys:
− Evaluate the suitability of certified materials and products for new constructions,
− Ensure that hulls, machinery, and equipment are constructed in accordance with regulations through mandatory inspections, tests, and trials,
− Issue Certificates, Reports, Records, and Status in compliance with applicable rules.
And/or:
2) In-service surveys:
− Verify that hulls, machinery, and equipment are maintained according to regulations through comprehensive inspections, tests, and trials,
− Identify deficiencies that need rectification (if any) and determine whether immediate repairs are necessary or if a condition can be issued with an appropriate deadline,
− Follow up on any repair work as required by regulations or due to previous outstanding conditions,
− Assess whether identified deficiencies (if any) may be linked to potential failures in the Ship Management System,
− Endorse Certificates and issue relevant documentation as required.
