Team Dynamics: As a chosen candidate, you will join the Bioinspired Soft Robotics (BSR) Research Line, led by Dr. Barbara Mazzolai. This team focuses on creating innovative robotic solutions inspired by natural systems, operating in a vibrant, international, and multidisciplinary environment that merges engineering with biological insights.
Project Goals: The current role is part of a project aimed at developing robotic platforms and AI technologies to monitor and protect the environment, particularly in the Liguria region. The selected candidate will collaborate with various IIT laboratories, notably the Smart Materials Lab.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and develop mechatronic systems for integration with diverse robotic platforms.
- Create actuation mechanisms for soft robotic devices.
- Construct prototypes and experimental setups.
- Source necessary materials for projects.
- Coordinate with the mechanical workshop for fabrication needs.
- Conduct prototyping and testing of developed systems.
Essential Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics, or related fields.
- A minimum of two years of documented experience in mechanical system development.
- Strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles.
- Proficiency in 3D design software (e.g., Siemens NX, SolidWorks).
- Experience with rapid prototyping and 3D printing technologies.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills in English.
- Ability to work effectively in teams and manage research data efficiently.
Preferred Skills:
- A Ph.D. in a relevant field is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Familiarity with various prototyping techniques and machining processes.
- Experience in soft materials fabrication and experimental robotic systems.
- Background in soft robotics or bioinspired robotics.
