Project Title: Development of implantable neuroelectronic sensing and actuating devices for closed-loop neuro-robotic prosthetics and electroceuticals.
Research Background: The project focuses on the advancement of active dense implantable neural probes utilizing CMOS technology, which significantly enhances the recording capabilities of brain-machine interfaces (BMIs). Current iterations of these devices lack the ability to electrically stimulate neural activity. The integration of bi-directionality in high-resolution neural interfacing devices, along with the development of closed-loop sensing and actuating systems, presents novel opportunities for neuroscience research and biomedical applications.
Project Goals: The primary objective is to create a closed-loop neuroelectronic platform that features fully bi-directional active dense neural probes with hundreds to thousands of closely integrated electrode-pixels. These can be flexibly configured for both electrical recording and stimulation. The candidate will collaborate closely with experts in CMOS circuit design, micro-/nano-structuring, neural data analysis, and in-vivo electrophysiology to construct and evaluate a comprehensive platform prototype, assessing the neuromodulation efficacy of various electrical stimulation modalities.
Essential Qualifications:
- MSc or equivalent in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering, or Physics.
- Background in biophysics.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Matlab, Python, C++, or C# for data analysis.
- Experience in electronic hardware development.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Knowledge of neuroscience.
- Experience in FPGA programming.
- Familiarity with biosensors and bioelectronics.
- Expertise in neural data analysis.
