Your Research Team

You will be part of a dynamic research group led by Dr. Lucia Beccai, focusing on the design and implementation of continuum manipulators that mimic the functionality of an elephant trunk. This project will explore innovative metamaterial-based soft actuators and the development of sophisticated soft gripping systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and fabrication of continuum manipulators and end-effectors.
  • Conduct parametric and topological optimization.
  • Perform kinematic modeling and analysis.
  • Characterize actuated systems and validate robotic applications.

Essential Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in mechanical engineering, robotics, mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in mechanical design and fabrication of soft systems, including tendon-driven and pneumatically actuated mechanisms.
  • Expertise in numerical modeling (Ansys, Comsol) and simulation (MATLAB) for kinematics.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design tools (SolidWorks, Siemens NX) for device prototyping and fabrication.
  • Experience with fabrication techniques for soft systems, including 3D printing.
  • A strong publication record in relevant fields.
  • Ability to effectively report, organize, and publish research findings.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English.
