Harness Designer

Purpose of the Role

The primary objective is to ensure the design of harnesses and their effective integration within various products, including traction systems, electrical cubicles, power modules, and switchgear. This will be achieved by adhering to established design protocols, ensuring product feasibility, and complying with relevant standards and the Alstom development process (DFQ).

Position in the Organization

Hierarchical: Electrical Domain Leader

Functional: Traction Domain Leader / Cubicle Domain Leader

Engineering Department: Traction Design

Key Responsibilities

Performance Metrics/KPIs

Adherence to QCD commitments (Quality, Costs, Delay)


• Deliverables completed correctly on the first attempt (No modifications required due to design errors post-FEI);

Responsibilities Include:

- Ensuring compliance with electrical and schematic industry standards

- Incorporating lessons learned, standards, and contractual obligations into deliverables

- Producing deliverables while considering Schematics & Apparatus and project inputs (CPS, WD, E BoM...)

- Integrating related discipline requirements: Advanced Industrialization, Harness design, EMC, and Maintainability

- Managing activities through a retro planning approach for projects

- Creating 3D models (routing) for each harness in collaboration with mechanical designers, manufacturing engineers, and S&A designers, as well as designing 3D models for metallic supports/parts related to electrical installations.

- Overseeing detailed electrical harness design deliverables: BoM kit, formboards, BoM in ERP & DMA, wiring lists, Plug Maps, instruction sheets, jig & tools lists

- Managing deliverables to ensure timely prototype launches and proper storage post-official release (DMA, GSI, TED, SEE ONE, etc.)

- Organizing and leading reviews of harness design deliverables, the Electrical Process review (detailed phase), and participating in the Electrical Process DR managed by S&A designers

- Ensuring updates to deliverables in the event of modifications (harness suppliers, internal or TT manufacturing, etc.)

- Addressing FQRs and resolving identified issues while managing gaps to retrofit harnesses.

- Ensuring expertise in terminal ends and cabling for the product/project

- Innovating, anticipating, and contributing to improvements in electrical harness design processes with the skill leader:

- Standard industry updates

- Optimization of IT tools

- Enhancements in the electrical domain (CATIA Electrical, CATIA Sheet metal, FAO, SEE ONE, etc.)
