Offshore Geotechnical Senior Engineer

RINA is currently recruiting for a Offshore Geotechnical Senior Engineer to join its office in Genoa, Rome, Milan - Italy within the Environmental and Engineering Geoscience Division.MissionThe position focuses on geotechnical design and site characterization for offshore infrastructure projects, including offshore energy, subsea installations and marine civil works. The role evaluates seabed and subsoil conditions and assesses their interaction with offshore structures such as foundations, subsea pipelines, cables and marine installations, ensuring safe and efficient design under marine environmental loading.Key AccountabilitiesDevelop offshore geotechnical engineering projects from feasibility to detailed design, including technical review of third‑party projects and support during offshore construction phases under senior supervision.Design offshore foundations (piles, suction caissons, anchors, gravity‑based structures), seabed stabilization measures and soil–structure interaction analyses.Perform geotechnical interpretation of offshore site investigations (CPTU, vibrocores, boreholes, geophysical surveys).Develop finite element or finite difference numerical models for static, cyclic and dynamic offshore loading conditions.Interpret laboratory testing on marine soils and rocks to assess strength, compressibility, cyclic behavior and long‑term performance.Assess geohazards such as seabed instability, liquefaction, shallow gas, slope failures or scour effects.Support planning and execution of offshore geotechnical site investigations and supervise data acquisition when required.Integrate geophysical, geological and geotechnical datasets to define ground models for offshore design.Provide technical support during offshore installation activities, including risk evaluation and troubleshooting.Prepare technical documentation, reports, specifications, engineering drawings and design calculations.Contribute to project scheduling, client interface and multidisciplinary coordination.Ensure compliance with quality management systems, international offshore standards and HSE requirements.EducationMaster’s DegreeDoctorate/PHD in Geotechnical EngineeringQualificationsProven experience in geotechnical engineering (at least 5 years), preferably with significant exposure to offshore or marine infrastructure projects (offshore wind, oil & gas, subsea pipelines, coastal or port structures).Experience in project coordination and offshore construction support is considered an advantage.Strong knowledge of offshore geotechnical design principles and marine soil behaviour.Experience with offshore site investigation techniques and interpretation of geotechnical/geophysical data.Proficiency in numerical modelling for offshore geotechnical applications.Familiarity with international offshore standards (DNV, ISO, API, etc.) is a plus.Ability to integrate multidisciplinary datasets and deliver practical engineering solutions in complex marine environments.CompetenciesWORKPLACE DYNAMICS – Resourcefulness in shaping progress and working efficiently.FORESIGHT & INSIGHT – Context awareness adopting a systemic perspective and informed decision making.PERSONAL EMPOWERMENT – Ownership for life, work and results, striving to grow professionally and personally.INTERPERSONAL INFLUENCE – Skills and strategies we use to interact effectively with others.DOMAIN & BUSINESS ACUMEN – Applying a scientific approach and critical thinking in operations and solution development within area of expertise.RINA is a multinational company providing a wide range of services in the energy, marine, certification, infrastructure & mobility, industry, research & development sectors.
