Hauptaufgaben Incumbent serves as a telephone mechanic responsible for the efficient operation and maintenance/repair of outside plant voice/data/video system components of the computerized Dial Telephone Exchange utilized by the U.S. Forces in Italy. Operates a variety of Test Measurement Diagnostic Equipment to detect operating problems. Reads, analyzes, and interprets wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, sketches, and work orders to determine methods, parts, supplies, tools and/or test equipment necessary to complete the assignment. Coordinates work with inside plant personnel as necessary. Locates, diagnoses and clears circuit troubles. Collaborate with contractors for commercial data, video and voice circuit installations. Reorganizes complete telephone systems, including cabling from the main switch to the users' analog telephones, fax machines, answering machines, digital telephones and VTC's. Performs cross connects between data switches and user ports. Climbs poles or utilizes vehicular lift devices and strings wire and steel support to buildings and poles. Makes temporary splices in wires or cable when necessary. Installs, maintains and troubleshoots LAN/WAN cables including copper and fiber optics; install, maintains, interconnects and troubleshoots patch panel, LAN outlets, LAN connectors. Assists with and installs between building copper cable, fiber optic and under/above ground conduit installations, termination, testing, and troubleshooting projects and provides operational maintenance to vital telephone/data infrastructure and architectural communication mediums. Installs, test and troubleshoots internal building telephone key system and telephone, data systems to isolate problematic interconnecting communication mediums. Remove all dust, lent and debris from cabinet vent opening, cabinet fan assembly, external equipment fan assemblies and open ports. Interprets line route maps, overlays, circuit diagrams, wire/cable route prints, and symbols used in wire and cable communications. Detects and locates opens, shorts, crosses, and grounds by using test equipment.NOTE: Incumbent may be required to climb poles and lift and replace moderately heavy items such as cable/wires reels. Employee is occasionally required to work in awkward and uncomfortable positions. Work requires continuous walking, climbing, standing and bending. Tour of duty is 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 08.00 to 17.00, including a 1-hour uncompensated lunch break. ABILITY TO REPAIR WORN WIRES, LOOSE CONNECTIONS OR BROKEN COMPONENTS;5. ABILITY TO USE WIRING DIAGRAMS AND SCHEMATIC DRAWINGS;6. ABILITY TO USE AND MAINTAIN HAND TOOLS OF THE TRADE;7.
