Software Engineer – OpenStack – CanonicalOverviewCanonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems, including Ubuntu. We are hiring a Software Engineer for our OpenStack Engineering team to build and maintain Charmed OpenStack and Ceph, a suite of open‑source Python‑based charms that deploy and manage OpenStack and Ceph environments. The role supports cloud‑platform technologies across desktops, bare‑metal servers, and a variety of architectures, and requires a Python developer who is passionate about infrastructure‑as‑code and open‑source automation.What You'll DoCollaborate proactively with our globally distributed teamWrite high‑quality code to create new featuresDebug and resolve issues, producing clean, maintainable codeReview code produced by other engineersContribute to the success of OpenStack and Ceph across architecturesTravel internationally several times a year, generally one week at a timeWork from home, with global travel for internal and external events (2–4 weeks per year)Who You ArePassionate about technology and collaborating with brilliant mindsCurious, flexible, articulate, accountable, and self‑motivatedPossess a Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or related fieldHave strong experience with Python developmentHave experience or interest in at least two of the following: Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, AI/ML, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, Go, C, Postgresql, Mongo, Debian packaging, scalable web servicesHave experience with non‑x86 architectures (e.g., s390, arm64, Power)Have experience with OpenStack, OVN, OpenvSwitch, and related cloud technologiesWhat Canonical OffersLearning and development opportunitiesAnnual compensation reviewRecognition rewardsFlexible working arrangementsPriority Pass for travelAnnual leave and benefitsEqual Opportunity StatementCanonical believes a diverse workforce enhances our ability to deliver world‑class software and services.
