Role OverviewThis is a full‑time hybrid role for a Software Engineer located in Rome/Milan. The role involves developing, maintaining, and supporting mainframe software products, collaborating with a team of engineers, and ensuring the reliability and efficiency of mainframe systems. You will become part of a global multi‑disciplined mainframe development team (develop, test, document) and will learn about our mainframe products.ResponsibilitiesBecome part of a global multi‑disciplined mainframe development team (develop, test, document) and learn about our mainframe products.All team members are expected to do L3 code maintenance, work with L2, develop new features, and support currency with other IBM products as they become available on the mainframe (e.g. DB2, IMS, C, PL/I, COBOL, Java, etc.).All code submitted is reviewed; you will be expected to play your role as a reviewer and as a reviewee.As a developer, you will work with an independent test team, but you must also develop your own unit tests as well as review test cases and results from the test team.Our mainframe products have client components that work on Windows/Linux as Eclipse plugins or VS Code extensions.Work with the client development team to expose host‑side features on the client side.QualificationsCitizen status is required.Willingness to embrace unfamiliar technology, tools, processes, and learn new skills.Familiarity with mainframe subsystems and features (TSO, z/OS, ISPF, CICS, Batch, DB2, IMS, VSAM, PDS, QSAM, PDSE/2, CATALOGS, SDSF, exits, SCLM, DUMPS, Abend analysis, utilities, etc.).Some understanding of the mainframe, z/OS, and how to generally navigate it.Vocational mainframer experience is highly welcome.Long‑term commitment to the platform.Experience with mainframe software development using JCL, REXX, PL/X, PL/I, C, HLASM (COBOL is rarely used).System software developer preferred (e.g. low level, file system) over an application software developer (e.g. business logic, reports).
