Are you interested in designing and delivering solutions for complex and high‑impact business problems?Retail Business Services (RBS) supports Amazon’s retail business growth worldwide through three core tasks: (a)Selection , where RBS sources, creates and enriches ASINs to drive GMS growth; (b)Defect Elimination , where RBS resolves inbound supply‑chain defects and develops root‑cause fixes to improve free cash flow; and (c)Process Support , where RBS supports operational processes for worldwide retail teams to fill gaps in the tech stack. The RBS technology team develops automation that leverages machine and deep learning to scale execution of these high‑complexity tasks that currently require human cognitive skills, ensuring that information in Amazon’s catalog is complete, correct, and comprehensive enough to give customers a great shopping experience every time. As an SDE, you will have immense opportunity to explore how to model things, determine the right abstraction level, and make judgment calls around multiple design trade‑offs that influence a multi‑billion‑dollar business. You will work on key initiatives planned to support our rapid evolution and growth of our businesses, drive best practices, mentor other engineers, and continuously improve engineering and operational excellence. You will use technology to solve complex problems and see the impact of your work first‑hand. As an SDE on the RBS team, you will work with talented peers of SDEs and applied scientists to build robust engineering platforms that solve high‑impact issues and constantly stretch the boundaries of innovation to tackle business challenges.Key Job Responsibilities We are looking for a sharp, experienced Software Developer with a diverse skill set and background. As an SDE‑2, your work is consistently of high quality. You will:Solve difficult problems, applying appropriate technologies and best practices.Invent, design, and build software that is stable and performant.Use a broad range of design approaches and apply them judiciously.Limit the use of short‑term workarounds and avoid over‑engineering.Make appropriate trade‑offs, reuse where possible, and introduce dependencies only when necessary.Manage resource usage efficiently (e.g., system hardware, database, memory/CPU).Collaborate with customers, stakeholders, and peers on project ideas.Participate actively in code review, design discussions, team planning, and ticket/metric reviews.Focus on operational excellence, constructively identifying problems and proposing solutions.Enhance team software and processes through new projects and improvements.Train new teammates on how your team’s software is constructed, operates, is secured, and fits into the bigger picture.Basic Qualifications3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) for new and existing systems.Experience programming with at least one software programming language.Knowledge of professional software engineering best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, software architectures, code reviews, source control management, continuous deployments, testing, and operational excellence.Bachelor’s degree or equivalent.Preferred Qualifications3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.Experience contributing to the architecture and design of new and current systems.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
