Amazon Devices is an inventive research and development company that designs and engineers high‑profile devices such as the Kindle family of products, Fire Tablets, Fire TV, Health & Wellness, Amazon Echo & Astro products. This is an exciting opportunity to join Amazon and develop state‑of‑the‑art techniques that bring Gen AI to edge devices for our consumer products. We are looking for exceptional early‑career research scientists to join our Applied Science team and help develop the next generation of edge models, optimize them, and co‑design custom ML hardware based on a revolutionary architecture. Make history.Key Job ResponsibilitiesUnderstand and contribute to model compression techniques (quantization, pruning, distillation, etc.) while developing a theoretical understanding of Information Theory and Deep Learning fundamentalsWork with senior researchers to optimize Gen AI models for edge platforms using Amazon’s Neural Edge EngineStudy and apply first principles of Information Theory, scientific computing, and non‑equilibrium thermodynamics to model‑optimization problemsAssist in research projects involving custom Gen AI model development, aiming to improve SOTA under mentorshipCo‑author research papers for top‑tier conferences (NeurIPS, ICLR, MLSys) and present at internal research meetingsCollaborate with compiler engineers, Applied Scientists, and Hardware Architects while learning about production ML systemsParticipate in reading groups and research discussions to build expertise in efficient AI and edge computingBasic QualificationsBachelor’s degree or above in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics or an equivalent quantitative fieldPhD, or a master’s degree and experience with popular deep learning frameworks such as MxNet and Tensor FlowExperience developing and implementing deep learning algorithms, particularly with respect to computer vision algorithmsExperience in Java, C++, Python, or a related language1+ years of industry or academic research experiencePreferred QualificationsMaster’s degree in engineering, technology, computer science, machine learning, robotics, operations research, statistics, mathematics or an equivalent quantitative fieldExperience with data modeling, warehousing, and building ETL pipelinesExperience with training and deploying machine learning systems to solve large‑scale optimizations, or experience in software developmentExperience in patents or publications at top‑tier peer‑reviewed conferences or journalsIf you have a disability and need a workplace accommodation or adjustment during the application and hiring process, including support for the interview or onboarding process, please visit for more information.
