Department Overview The Data Center SSD Firmware team develops advanced embedded firmware solutions for Micron’s next-generation storage products. The team focuses on delivering high-performance and reliable firmware for enterprise and cloud environments, working closely with hardware, validation, and system engineering teams. Position Overview As a Firmware Engineer at Micron Technology, Inc., you will build high-performance controller firmware for volatile and non-volatile memory systems. You will support the evaluation, development, testing, debugging, and failure analysis of firmware for next-generation memory controllers and Data Center Solid State Drives (SSD). You will collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to resolve product development issues, triage failures, and isolate firmware and system-level issues. Responsibilities
- Develop, test, and debug embedded firmware for Data Center SSD controllers and memory systems
- Analyze firmware behavior, troubleshoot failures, and perform root-cause analysis
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify, reproduce, and resolve product issues
- Contribute to firmware validation, integration, and performance optimization activities
- Participate in code reviews, bug tracking, and continuous improvement of development processes
- Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience or academic background in embedded firmware development
- Programming experience in Python and familiarity with at least one system-level language (e.g., C/C++)
- Knowledge of scripting languages, development tools, and debugging environments
- Ability to work in a multi-functional team and manage multiple priorities
- Experience with storage systems (SSD, HDD) or interfaces such as PCIe/NVMe, SATA, or SAS
- Exposure to NAND flash or other non-volatile memory technologies
- Knowledge of firmware debugging, failure analysis, and performance profiling
- Experience with low-level programming (e.g., C, C++, assembly, Rust)
- Exposure to embedded systems and interaction with hardware components
