Join KPMG Italy as a Data Engineer | Azure Fabric in the Lighthouse team based in Milan. KPMG Advisory offers consulting services to help companies transform their business models, improve processes, manage risks and support extraordinary finance transactions. Job Overview In the Lighthouse Center of Excellence you will design and implement advanced data and analytics solutions, leveraging machine learning, data visualisation, process mining, and cloud-native technologies to enhance decision‑making processes. Responsibilities Provide cutting‑edge technology solutions, including algorithms, business intelligence, data visualisation, advanced analytics, process mining, and machine learning technologies to support human decision‑making. Qualifications Hold a master’s (or bachelor’s) degree in computer engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or another relevant discipline. Have at least 1–2 years of professional experience as a Data Engineer or in a data‑related role (e.g., Data Analyst, BI Developer). Possess a solid foundation in data management principles, including metadata management, data modelling, data lineage, ETL/ELT design, and data architecture. Have the ability to analyse, design, develop, and maintain business intelligence systems, both Data Warehouse and big data. Have a strong background in data management. Have strong SQL skills and experience with at least one modern relational database (PostgreSQL, SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle). Have experience with operating systems (Linux, Unix, Windows), shell scripting, and major ETL tools (Informatica, Talend, DataStage). Are familiar with modern data pipeline and orchestration frameworks (dbt, Apache Airflow, Azure Data Factory, AWS Glue, GCP Dataflow/Composer). Are proficient in English, ideally with international study or work experience. Have hands‑on experience with at least one major cloud provider (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and its native data services. Have knowledge of programming languages for data engineering (Python preferred; Scala/Java a plus), as well as stored procedure development (T‑SQL, Oracle PL/SQL). Are familiar with distributed computing and big data technologies (Apache Spark, Hadoop, Delta Lake, Parquet, Kafka/Pub‑Sub, NoSQL databases). Have expertise in data visualisation solutions (Power BI, Qlik Sense, Tableau, Looker) and a basic understanding of operational support activities (bug fixing, monitoring, AMS). Preferred Areas Data Engineer | Google BigQuery – Experience or strong interest in GCP‑native analytics, including BigQuery, Dataform, Pub/Sub, Cloud Storage, Dataflow and Looker; strong SQL and ELT design with a focus on cost‑efficient architectures. Data Engineer | Snowflake – Understanding of Snowflake’s cloud‑native architecture (virtual warehouses, micro‑partitioning, time travel, zero‑copy cloning), Snowpark, external tables, data sharing, performance optimisation and integration with dbt and modern BI tools. Data Engineer | Azure Fabric – Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric’s unified analytics workloads: Lakehouse, Data Engineering, Warehouse, Real‑Time Analytics and Data Science; hands‑on knowledge of OneLake, Delta/Parquet, Fabric Pipelines and governance/security components.
