This individual will challenge current processes, equipment, procedures, and electrical/controls specifications in our delivery stations to come up with creative and implementable process improvement initiatives with a focus on AB PLC/HMI and vision systems development. This Senior Systems Development Engineer will contribute to all aspects of an agile systems development life cycle including design, architecture, development, documentation, testing, and operations. This position will be responsible for designing, managing, and executing the next generation of delivery station processes, equipment, and operations. This is a unique opportunity to own new innovative projects that will advance the intelligence of our last mile business.Key Job ResponsibilitiesSenior Controls Engineer responsible for designing and developing industrial control systems and PLC programs for Material Handling Equipment (MHE) across Amazon Logistics North America.Core Technical ResponsibilitiesDesign and implement complex control systems using Allen Bradley PLCs and CODESYS.Develop hardware/firmware interfaces and IoT solutions.Create and maintain PLC/IPC/HMI software and vision systems.Establish electrical and controls design standards.Implement system health monitoring and self-healing automation.Project LeadershipManage multiple high-visibility projects simultaneously.Lead technical design reviews for control systems and simulations.Coordinate with global design teams and vendors.Drive process improvements and technical implementation.Review and integrate new MHE technologies.Technical ExpertiseIndustrial networks (Ethernet, safety over Ethernet IP).Material handling control systems.IPCs and barcode scanners.Advanced technology applications.Conveyor hardware integration.Must demonstrate deep technical knowledge and ability to influence cross-functional teams while maintaining effective communication with internal and external partners.A Day in the LifeYour work is very hands-on and multi-disciplinary. You will be working closely with vendors, cross-functional engineers, and project teams. You lead design reviews, write and troubleshoot PLC code and IPC-based code such as CODESYS, document, demonstrate proof-of-concepts, build prototypes, and manage stakeholder expectations.Qualifications2+ years of designing or architecting new and existing systems (design patterns, reliability, and scaling).Experience leading the design, build, and deployment of complex and performant software solutions in production.Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.7+ years of industrial controls and automation experience.2+ years’ experience directly developing control strategies in CODESYS.Demonstrated experience with Functional Safety standards (IEC 62061, IEC 13849, or IEC 61508).Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.Experience taking a leading role in building complex software or computing infrastructure that has been successfully delivered to customers.Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status.Our inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
