Intellectual property is a core strategic function at Meril, directly supporting long-term innovation, product differentiation, and business growth.European Patent Attorney (Mid-Level, In-House IP Team)Location: Italy or Germany (Remote)The PositionMeril Life Sciences is seeking a mid-level European Patent Attorney (5–7 years’ experience) to join its in-house Intellectual Property team. The role offers substantial responsibility across the full patent lifecycle, with a particular focus on portfolio management, prior art searches and analysis, EPO prosecution and oppositions, litigation support (both national level in Europe and UPC).The position may be based in Italy, Germany, or fully remote , while remaining fully integrated into an international in-house IP organization.Key ResponsibilitiesDraft high-quality European and international patent applications, primarily in the mechanical and medical device fieldsManage and conduct patent prosecution before the EPO , including examination strategy and portfolio alignmentActively handle and support EPO opposition and appeal proceedings , including coordination with external counsel and preparation of technical and legal submissionsCoordinate, instruct, and supervise external patent attorneys and law firms across multiple jurisdictionsConduct and oversee Freedom-to-Operate (FTO) searches and analyses , including risk assessment and clear reporting to internal stakeholdersContribute to strategic patent portfolio management , including filing strategies, portfolio optimization, and lifecycle managementSupport IP litigation activities , including national and UPC litigation and enforcement actions, in close cooperation with external counselWork closely with R&D, engineering, regulatory, and business teams to identify inventions and develop robust, defensible IP strategiesProvide clear, pragmatic, and business-focused IP advice to internal stakeholdersRequired Qualifications and ExperienceFully qualified European Patent Attorney (EQE qualification is mandatory)5–7 years of professional experience in patent drafting, prosecution, and portfolio management either in house or in the private practiceEducational background in Mechanical Engineering.
