Commissioning Engineer

Amazon Data Services, Inc. (Job ID ) is seeking a dynamic Commissioning Engineer to join the AWS Infrastructure Services team. This role supports the design, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure, ensuring safe and resilient operation of data centers and critical systems.Key Responsibilities The ACx Commissioning Engineer (CxE) oversees multi‑discipline coordination for design review and commissioning of Amazon critical infrastructure for new construction and special projects. Responsibilities include:Supporting vendors, contractors, and cross‑functional teams in construction and commissioning of medium and low voltage power systems, generators, UPS, HVAC, chilled water, BMS, and EPMS systems.Providing multi‑discipline input into scheduling, test script development, design, and planning of projects.Developing and reviewing electrical and mechanical component and integrated systems testing and commissioning documents to ensure compliance with design intent and industry standards.Ensuring all commissioning procedures follow safety practices and policies.Auditing commissioning activities continuously to maintain compliance with environmental, quality, and safety requirements.Communicating with the ACx Regional Manager and ACx team to create and execute required test documents.Reporting weekly status of ongoing projects, lessons learned, and program improvements.Physical RequirementsWalk job sites on uneven terrain.Work at heights and from ladders.Regularly walk, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.Lift and/or move up to 49 pounds; participate in group lifts for 50 pounds or more.Carry objects weighing up to 49 pounds for short distances.Work shifts longer than eight hours with potential for night and weekend work.Perform physical tasks throughout the day without becoming overly tired.Manipulate small wires and objects easily.Work in noisy environments.Work in environments colder or hotter than a normal office environment.Additional Job RequirementsAbility to relocate to Northern Virginia / Greater DC area.Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 50% of the year (typical travel ~20%).Required to provide personal transportation for off‑site meetings and job visits; reimbursement provided.5+ years engineering, installation, or startup/commissioning of electrical and mechanical systems.Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or 5 years of relevant work experience.High technical competency in electrical, mechanical, or control systems used in critical infrastructures.Understand design concepts by reviewing mechanical or electrical design documentation and providing feedback aligned with Amazon standards.Develop and review commissioning documentation such as test plans, scripts, and reports from vendors.Preferred QualificationsAdvanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and SharePoint or similar.Strong communication skills and detail oriented; highly organized.Ability to read and edit construction documents (design drawings, control diagrams, specifications, etc.).Experience developing and executing test procedures for mechanical or electrical systems/components based on design intent and approved equipment submittals.Compensation and Benefits The base pay for this position ranges from $105,100 per year in our lowest geographic market to $185,000 per year in our highest geographic market.
