Apply now and join us in shaping the future of space.Role SummaryAs an Experienced / Senior Ground Systems Engineer, you will lead the design, development, verification, validation and maintenance of entire ground segment solutions for some of D-Orbit's most innovative missions. Within this role, you will be considered an expert in Mission Control Software systems and will assume the responsibilities that a Product Owner in our Scrum-based team that is developing D-Orbit's next generation Mission Control Software. Hence, with your expertise, you will cooperate with a variety of specialty engineering teams (including Ground Software, Flight Software, Infrastructure & Cybersecurity, Flight Dynamics, Operations Engineering, Telecommunications and Space Systems) to shape our Mission Control Software, guiding development teams towards the successful completion of a product that fulfils the real needs of all internal and external stakeholders.Due to the nature of this role, you will operate with autonomy to meet the program goals and represent D-Orbit in front of external customers, suppliers and partners. Consequently, as part of your role, you will coordinate activities to generate the required deliverables and defend D-Orbit's Mission Control Software solution in front of relevant academic, institutional or commercial stakeholders. While your primary focus will be on the development of D-Orbit's next‑generation Mission Control Software, you may be required to support other programs in D-Orbit as a member of the Ground Systems Engineering team within the Flight Dynamics, Operations Development and Ground Systems Engineering Group.Tasks and ResponsibilitiesElicitation of needs and constraints from stakeholders and industry standardsCreation, derivation, analysis, justification and maintenance of Mission Control Software specificationsCreation, maintenance and prioritisation of D-Orbit's Mission Control Software Product BacklogGeneration and maintenance of Mission Control Software documentation, including Design Description Files, Interface Control Documents, User Manuals, Training material, etc.Generation and maintenance of System Analysis Reports, including Time budgets, Data budgets, Availability analyses, etc.Generation and / or maintenance of Decision Analysis and Result reportsGeneration of Mission Control Software Engineering Plans (e.g. Design and Development Plans, Verification and Validation Plans, Installation and Integration Plans, etc)Preparation, execution and reporting of V&V activities for the Mission Control SoftwareMonitoring and control of ground systems engineering activities in the Mission Control Software teamMentoring of more junior ground systems engineersSupport as first‑line troubleshooting support to internal and external stakeholdersSupport to other D-Orbit programs requiring D-Orbit Mission Control Software supportSupport the generation, elicitation or derivation of program‑specific requirementsPlanning and conduction of training campaigns for D-Orbit's Mission Control Centre personnelProvide technical support to D-Orbit's Mission Control Centre in executing operations when required as Technical Solution ExpertInterface with AIV team and support related activitiesInterface with Flight Operations development and execution teams and support related activitiesInterface with external stakeholders (e.g. customers, suppliers, partners, institutions, regulators)Representing D-Orbit's technical team within the frame of the programs you will supportEssential RequirementsDemonstrable experience assuming Product Owner responsibilities within an Agile‑based software development teamDemonstrable experience in design and development of Mission Control Software; Demonstrable experience in verification and validation of Mission Control SoftwareTrack record of multiple successful deliveries of milestone data packs on quality and in time within the context of big institutional space programsDemonstrable experience in successfully driving technical activities involving the coordination of multiple external stakeholdersSolid knowledge of typical ground segment solution architecturesExperience authoring technical documents to the standards of institutional players in the space industry; Knowledge of Microsoft Office SuiteSolid knowledge of relevant space industry standards (e.g. ECSS, CCSDS); Strong analytical and problem‑solving skillsProactive attitude and ability to work in teams and individually; Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and effectively; Full professional proficiency in EnglishAt D-Orbit, diversity and inclusivity are not just values, they are integral to our mission and the way we operate.
