Research Specialist I – Levack Lab Position: Research Specialist I. Department: Orthopaedic Surgery, Maywood‑Health Sciences Campus. Full‑time, Exempt, FLSA Status. Location: Orthopaedic Surgery (06660A). Eligibility for grant‑funded position. Duties and ResponsibilitiesCarries out complex experiments and technical procedures as directed by the Principal Investigator involving surgery on animals, tissue or cell cultures, and making direct experimental measurements. Performs mouse husbandry, colony maintenance, and genotyping. Independently performs experimental techniques and operates specialized equipment required to complete projects. Responsible for equipment maintenance and setting up experimental design and lab techniques. Assists in writing scientific manuscripts and presenting at meetings. Performs in‑depth analysis of experimental results. Performs literature searches on a computer and retrieves literature from the library. Assists in modifying specific protocols and methodology. Monitors inventory of essential laboratory supplies and orders all supplies when required. Maintains orderly records of purchases. Ensures lab environment complies with safety regulations and may assume partial responsibility for safety in the lab. Maintains a safe and orderly lab environment. Implements experiments and performs lab techniques specific to the lab and in accordance with directions from the individual P.I. Trains and provides oversight of medical and graduate students, junior lab staff, and other lab users. Performs related duties as assigned.Minimum Education and/or Work ExperienceBachelor’s Degree in Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, or Chemistry. 3–5 years of previous job‑related experience. A combination of education and experience may be considered.QualificationsPrior murine laboratory experience strongly preferred. Excellent bench skills. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently. Goal and deadline oriented. Strong interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication skills.Certificates/Credentials/LicensesN/AComputer SkillsProficiency with Microsoft Office suite required.Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNo required operation of university owned vehicles.
