Institute for Alpine Environment
The Institute for Alpine Environment performs problem-oriented research of mountain environments in the fields of landscape ecology, global change, biodiversity, ecosystem services and sustainable development. For the project „Digital Soil Map South Tyrol (DigiSoil - CUP D53C )”, we invite applications for the position of a researcher (100%) in the field of soil mapping. Besides profound knowledge in mapping of soil types and data processing, the ideal candidate has experience in project management. Investigation area will be the entire region of South Tyrol (ITA), working location is Bolzano/Bozen.
Tasks:
Creation of a database for spatially explicit soil data and key influencing factors
Compilation of existing soil type maps, harmonisation of soil types, and GIS-compatible preparation
Compilation and standardisation of existing point data on soil chemistry and soil physics for the province
Project management, including the organisation of a course on soil mapping
Preparation of reports and publications, as well as presentations for internal and external conferences
Requirements:
Master’s degree in ecology, geography, pedology, or a related field
Excellent written and spoken German and English; good written and spoken Italian of advantage
Excellent knowledge of ArcGIS, landscape modelling, data management, statistical applications, and MS Office
Experience in working with research data, e.g. data collection and databases
Excellent organisational, communication, and social skills
Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and with project partners
Experience in writing scientific papers and reports

Gross annual salary ranging from 45.256,9 € to 52.832,08 €
