This position is highly visible in Amazon and has high business impact.The role will be responsible for delivering aspects of an Amazon Fulfilment Center (FC), focusing on its automation technologies (conveyance, sortation, robotics) and storage solutions. This person will be responsible for planning, designing and delivering medium and large size state‑of‑the‑art material handling systems and technology innovations to effectively launch new Fulfillment Centers, expand existing sites and improve operations generally. The role will own Safety and make interventions accordingly. Safety is defined broadly and includes user ergonomics, environment and noise. There will be responsibility for budget and schedule of the projects. Give accurate updates and risk forecast. Focus on cost‑saving while ensuring quality and optimum performance.During execution, the person will often act as the main interface point for internal and external stakeholders. Internal functional teams include Worldwide Design Engineering, RME, PMO, Central Planning, Construction, IT and Launch, and external ones such as vendors and consultants. The person has input from early design stages and holds direct responsibility for building access, commissioning through handover to the Operations and Maintenance teams who lead the FC from Go‑Live.For this experienced project manager role there is a high level of autonomy to manage the projects and an expectation to improve processes across projects. Amazon expects the OPS Engineering Project Manager to take a high level of ownership and autonomy in leading the solution of complex problems in a fast‑paced environment across multiple regional and global teams. The candidate will own Safety, ensure no unplanned disruption to live operations and make interventions accordingly. The Project Manager considers Quality to deliver long‑term operational performance and Sustainability as part of Amazon's path to a greener and more sustainable future.The PM is expected to lead or contribute to technology development; understand individual pieces of equipment, their application and benchmark performance and propose innovation. The role will be based in Italy with 50% of time travelling either domestically or to other EMEA countries.Key job responsibilitiesEnd‑to‑end ownership for medium/large‑scale engineering projects (planning, design, procurement, installation, commissioning and qualification, launch support)Dive deep on technical details and provide value engineering and innovative solutions to drive frugality and continuous improvementsLead technical design reviews and propose design solutions for material handling and storage solutions that meet both business needs and global design standardsCreate, submit and track relevant CAPEX requests (Capital Planning) to ensure that all projects are delivered within budget and best overall valueAssess and communicate project status, drive escalations on potential risks and delays across multiple teamsOwn the budget for the scope of the project. During the early project phases of project design and bidding, you will predominantly work in an Amazon office or from your home. During the project execution, you will typically spend 50% of your time at the project site, with peaks extending to most weekdays with full ownership during the last phases of project installation, Commissioning & Qualification and post‑Launch ramp up.About the team You will work on the delivery of one of our Amazon Fulfillment Centers with a project lifecycle of about a year with a high‑performing team. You will be constantly helped by the team, will respect and leverage diverse point of views and focus on inclusion of new members.Basic QualificationsBachelor or Master Degree in Engineering or related disciplineExperience interacting with cross‑functional teams & subject‑matter expertsProven Project/Program Management experience in comparable industrial environmentsExperience using MS Excel, CAD/BIM related softwares, MS ProjectStrong verbal and written communication skills in both native and English languagesPreferred QualificationsProcess & Quality improvement qualifications such as Six SigmaProject management qualifications such as APMProject execution experience in a construction environment (new build) or operational environment (buildout)Ability to lead internal teams to deliver cross‑functional programs and manage vendor relationsKnowledge about automated material handling systems, packaging technologies and storage solutionsParticipation during a previous new site launchFrench, Polish, Arabic, Portuguese, Turkish, Afrikaans and Zulu are considered preferred qualifications.Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
