Solution Engineering Manager

Location: Firenze, Italy Thales people architect solutions that support 85 million mainline and suburban passenger journeys, worldwide, every day. Our Rail Signalling and Communication systems are used on metro lines across major cities, and 72,000 kms of route, 52,000 trains per day in 16 countries are controlled by our Traffic Management Systems. Together We deployed the first-ever nationwide ticketing system which processes over 50 million ticketing transactions in 100 cities daily. The Solution Engineering Manager has a large professional experience (min. 5 years) in the technical management of complex integrated Transportation programs/projects. This role requires a sound technical knowledge of all the main technologies and subsystems used to implement IT, Telecom and Security services of the way in which these subsystems are integrated and of the operational scenarios. Main activities The Solution Engineering Manager: - Is responsible for all technical activities: identifying and analyzing the requirements (Contractual and System Requirements phase), defining the architecture, allocating the requirements to the system components, defining the interfaces between components, developing solutions (System Design and Development phases), integrating, verifying, validating and qualifying the system (System Integration and Acceptance phases) - Is responsible for the conformity with requirements, quality, performance, Customer satisfaction budget and schedule relevant to Engineering package - Plans, controls and coordinates all technical activities - Proposes the technical solution and the general network architecture - Oversees configuration management activities and solution integrity with the Configuration Manager - Provides support for deployment/installation and site acceptance activities - Ensures coordination and communication among the various players in technical activities and a smooth transition of responsibility to "Installation and Commissioning" organization - Is the main technical interface for the Customer Counterpart - Coordinates with his technical Customer Counterpart according to Contractual requirement - Participates to Program/Project Meetings (internal and external: with the Customer, Thales subcontractors and other entities) when scheduled and/or requested - Compiles reports concerning his role and responsibilities according to internal reporting procedure - Drafts official letters and correspondence to be sent to the Customer - Coordinates and controls of the different Vendors and Subcontractors - Correctly applies Quality procedures and HSE procedures and instruction of his team - Continually reviews the technical Scope of Work and keeps updated the scope baseline informing constantly the PM and the Contract Manager - Proposes variation requests to PM for submitting to the Customer - Provides support to the Contract Manager in preparing the Claim Files (towards Vendors, Subcontracts and Customer) - Approves all the technical documentation to be submitted to the Customer - Supports the Purchasing Department in the definition of subcontracts and standard clauses to be inserted in the SubContract Agreement and in the Purchase Orders - Plans and conducts the Program/Project reviews in line with Company standard processes Skills and experience - Knowledge of System Engineering discipline and processes - Professional experience in managing Customer and Suppliers relationships. - Capability of coordinating resources in an international context - Fluency in Italian and English is mandatory - Minimum 5 years proven experience in designing complex integrated Transportation Projects - Availability to travel - Experience in design, integration and validation referred to one or more of the below listed systems: - Communication Systems (IP Networking, Network Security, PABX and VoIP, WLAN, TETRA, LTE, Structured Cabling, Public Address Systems, etc.) - Tramway Signalling Systems - Video Communication Systems (Public Information Displays, Passenger Information Systems, Video Broadcasting Systems, Master Antenna Television, etc.) - Security Systems (CCTV, Access Control Systems, Intrusion Detection Systems, Digital Video and Voice recording, Fire Protection Systems, etc.) - SCADA and Environmental Control Systems, Building Management and Information Systems The following competencies are appreciated: knowledge of Cybersecurity and Information security (Application Firewalling (UTM), Access Control Rules, Packet Inspection and Intruder Detection Systems), Virtualized architectures (HW, Hypervisor and SW architecture)
