- **Summary of Responsibilities**_

Works in one or a combination of selling/work centers within the store which includes selling centers with merchandise requiring specialized product knowledge, i.e., jewelry, cosmetics, clothing, sporting goods, footwear, electronics, computers, military wear, or outdoor living, where store management has determined that specialized product knowledge is required. May be assigned to more than one selling center as cash register operator, laborer (early morning stocker), or limited customer service clerk.

1. When scheduled as a Sales Clerk (retail): actively assists customers in the selection and purchase of items; answers customer questions; demonstrates/explains special features of merchandise; alerts customers to new items; and suggested related items of merchandise. Assists in special promotions; operates a cash register, if needed; assists in merchandise replenishment, price marking, display, and stocking. Participates in inventories.

2. When scheduled to operate a cash register, self-checkout cash register, or other sales related equipment: itemizes and totals customers' purchases on cash register. Accepts cash, checks, credit and other payments. Verifies credit cards and checks for payment reliability, and makes change. Enters new accounts, conducts sales, refunds, or similar transactions (e.g. voids, and price overrides). May prepare sales slips and price merchandise. Checks merchandise for price stickers, damage and unmarked items. Stocks and sells merchandise such as cigarettes, candy, and other impulse items, as required. Bags merchandise upon sale. Maintains and accounts for own cash fund; completes daily cash and sales reports.

3. When scheduled as a Laborer (early morning stocker): requests merchandise stocks or pulls stock, sorts or prepares stock for replenishment of shelves, and then stacks merchandise, as required, for attractive presentation. Displays and replenishes merchandise in a neat and presentable fashion in accordance with instructions. Advises supervisor when damaged/defective merchandise is found. May price mark merchandise, as required. Cleans fixtures and removes boxes, trash, and excess merchandise from the sales floor.

4. When scheduled in the customer services area: gift wraps customer purchases, and accepts special orders and/or in-store services. May pull orders for customers from stockroom. Advises customers of new services and suggests related services/merchandise. May accept and approve requests for refunds, exchanges, and adjustments. Refers other requests for refunds and exchanges to a higher graded customer services clerk or supervisor for resolution.

5. Performs a variety of duties/transactions relating to the forex fuel program, including collecting delinquent debts.

6. Performs housekeeping duties, such as dusting and straightening, during non-selling peak hours.

7. Advises supervisor of suspected cases of shoplifting and other safety and/or security problems.

8. Ensures compliance with fire, safety, sanitation, and security regulations.

9. Ensures the security of cash, fixed assets, and merchandise inventory.

10. Actively communicates/promotes the benefits of the military star credit card, exchange protection plan and other corporate programs to customers to drive sales growth and increase customer brand loyalty.

Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Supervisory control:
Works under general supervision. Complies with applicable retail regulations and directives. Applies detailed knowledge of, and extensive experience in, selling retail items, the nature of which requires commodity oriented service and advice to individual customers. Applies conversational knowledge of required technical terms. Work performance is checked in terms of customer satisfaction and sales results.
- **Qualification requirements**_

Completion of high school or the equivalent.

Creditable job-related experience may be substituted for the education requirement.

Specialized merchandise knowledge and sales experience required.

Fluency in Italian and English (spoken and written) is mandatory.
