**1. Context**

The overarching goal of the Research Division (RD) is to provide NATO's senior leaders with sound and timely analyses and recommendations on current issues of particular concern for the Alliance. The RD is also responsible for the planning, organization and execution of the NDC’s Research Programme, including research seminars and workshops, publications, research fellowships, and partnerships with other academic and research institutions. Through academic freedom and independent research, the RD contributes to the broad NDC educational mission, within the NDC and beyond. Research is also conducted in close cooperation with other NATO entities, in particular with NATO HQ and high-level strategic commands. Overall, the activities of the RD - which also contribute to the internal curriculum development of the College - may help convey NATO's positions to the wider audience of the international strategic community and will thereby contribute to strengthen the Transatlantic Link.

**2. Job Description**

The RD Intern will possess good writing and communication skills, and will be tasked to provide research assistance and support to the Research team, by _inter alia _:

- collecting materials (articles, reports, etc.) on NATO-related topics;
- attending events and writing reports on the discussions;
- writing analytical notes on international security-related issues;
- analysing online articles and reports released by think tanks and worldwide academic institutions on specific and tailored issues;
- making summaries of articles/reports;
- assisting the RD publication process.

Flexibility, good communication skills, diplomacy, teamwork, critical thinking/problem solving skills as well as the ability to work independently are essential prerequisites.

A very good level of English language proficiency is required whilst the knowledge of French and/or Italian would be beneficial but not essential.

NATO Defense College is only able to offer internship to people who are at least 21 and under the age of 30 and citizens of a NATO member country.
