The Opportunity

Reporting to the head of IT Financial Mgmt, US, this position is responsible for global/local accounting expense close, IT planning (expense budget and staffing), allocation of costs, as well as regular monitoring of IT cost development. This position takes necessary regional actions on behalf of Munich Re IT Controlling and acts as the interface to the global IT processes. In addition, this position is responsible for analysis and reporting of the IT expenses development in the SSO. Supports senior IT management at the local unit / SSO in financial decision making. This position provides support to all IT departments/colleagues and acts as liaison with the Finance department.
As a Sr Financial Specialist, you'll:
- Be responsible for the closing process for the local business units assigned / shared service organization in terms of accruals, project accounting, intercompany charge backs, all close related requirements from local unit.
- Identify and analyze trends and developments, as well as deriving appropriate recommendations. Perform analysis on all IT Financial data including primary costs, allocated costs, budget and actuals. Identify and explain significant variances and work with IT management on corrective or exception handling actions.
- Assess / present the development of expenses for the IT senior management and other stakeholders (e.g. Board of Management, local CFOs, internal and external clients) in standard reports and ad-hoc analyses. Prepare and facilitate quarterly Forecast meetings on budget development with IT management. Partner and communicate effectively with all levels of staff and senior management.
- Be responsible for the cost and (internal and external) staff planning for the serviced IT units.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or Mathematics; CPA or MBA designations preferred but not required.
- Excellent knowledge in Financial Management / Controlling / IT Controlling with several years of professional experience.
- Ability to depict complex topics in a clear and simple manner. Ability to proactively identify and address issues as well as potentials for improvement.
- Excellent interpersonal skills (written and verbal) with ability to influence without direct authority; actively listening to others to ensure understanding of issues. Strong team orientation, collaborating with co-workers to develop and implement solutions.
- Excellent organizational, time-management, and project-management skills, with capability to manage and prioritize deliverables and requirements. Willingness to adapt to changing requirements.
- Sound knowledge of SAP/CO, SAP BW, Power BI, Powerpoint. High proficiency in Excel required.
