Research Technician

EMBL is Europe’s life sciences laboratory - an intergovernmental organization with more than 110 independent research groups and service teams covering the spectrum of molecular biology. It operates across six sites in Heidelberg (headquarters), Barcelona, Cambridge, Grenoble, Hamburg and Rome. EMBL Rome hosts six independent research groups addressing fundamental questions in the area of epigenetics and neurobiology and operates four core facilities that provide key research support. EMBL Rome shares its research campus with the Italian National Research Council (CNR) Institute for Biochemistry and Cell Biology (IBBC).

About the Job

The Rompani group at EMBL Rome is looking for a Research Technician who will participate in neuroscience research as part of an interdisciplinary team of scientists working within a highly collaborative international environment. We have two arms to our research: studying how vision is shaped by arousal mechanisms in the brain and finding the molecular underpinnings of aging. Both projects use mouse genetics and virus-mediated gene delivery, but the first relies on in vivo 2-photon microscopy and electrophysiology, while the second uses ML-enabled behavioral analysis, RNA-seq, and other -omic techniques. The person appointed to this position will play an important part of supporting the science in the lab and will have expanded opportunities to participate in these research projects.

In addition to engaging with either of the above projects, an essential aspect of this position is having a key role in general laboratory organization and flexibly providing various forms of support for group members throughout their projects, in alignment with your expertise. For instance, a computational person could assist in data analysis pipeline optimization and data management, while one with more wetlab expertise could performing stereotaxic infections for ongoing experiments or engage in library preparation for scRNA-seq.

You have any of these (not all):
Expertise in molecular biology, virology, genetics, cell biology, or biochemistry.

Expertise in animal husbandry, surgery, and behavioral testing in mice.

Expertise with _in vivo _neural recording and manipulation techniques (e.g. 2-photon microscopy, patch clamping, optogenetics).

Expertise in data analysis and computational biology, (e.g. bioinformatic analysis of sequencing data).

Good communication skills in English are required. No knowledge of Italian is needed for this position.

Please note that this position is for a maximum of three (3) years, and it is an in person, full-time position.

**Salary**: Grade 4 (monhtly salary staring from 2.859,00 EUR after tax plus other paid benefits)
