**This role in Summary**

The **Digital & Privacy Counsel, EMEA** (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) position is a newly developed, strategic role that will advise on matters lying at the intersection of data protection and Whirlpool’s growing digital businesses, including Internet-of-Things, eCommerce, and digital marketing. This position will provide strategic commercial counseling to business leadership in areas critical to Whirlpool Corporation’s strategic digital initiatives, with an emphasis on data privacy, protection, and governance. This position will report to the EMEA Commercial Legal Director, have a dotted line to Whirlpool’s Director of Global Privacy, and work closely with EMEA’s Data Protection Officer. This position will also be a member of the Law Department’s Global Commercial team and be an active contributor to the Law Department’s Global Privacy team.

This position is located in Whirlpool’s EMEA headquarters in Milan, Italy. However, we may have flexibility to base the position in other major European cities as well.

**Key Activities and Responsibilities**
- Support the EMEA Digital Consumer Journey (“DCJ”) teams as they seek to deliver best-in-class consumer experiences that are both compelling and compliant.
- Ensure business compliance with GDPR and other applicable privacy and data protection laws, practices, and policies, in the areas of website and mobile app development, marketing, consumer profiling, consumer services, and other consumer touchpoints.
- Advance the integration of the EMEA Privacy program with business data strategies and initiatives;
- Assist in the negotiation of technology-focused services agreements in support of regional DCJ initiatives, including to ensure GDPR compliance. Negotiate and review data processing agreements for commercial and marketing projects, with a focus on privacy and ecommerce risks, and support the legal team to draft, review and negotiate data protection, security and regulatory provisions in agreements. Oversees all legal aspects of EMEA enterprise cross-border data sharing strategy, including intra-company data sharing arrangements and onward transfer agreements.
- Provide general counseling and advice on the EU data protection and ePrivacy laws and regulations as well as applicable laws of other EMEA markets in collaboration with the DPO.
Participate in Whirlpool’s global privacy team, actively contribute to global Privacy projects and initiatives, and cascade relevant global tools and materials across EMEA
- Manage outside counsel relationships and budgets.

What You Need To Succeed
- Mix of technical knowledge in the Privacy space with ability to provide practical commercial counseling to business leadership.
- Ability to map legal knowledge to commercial strategy.
- Passion for digital technologies and best-in-class digital consumer experiences
- Passion for data protection, consumer protection, and compliance.
- Law degree and 8-10 years of relevant legal experience, & Privacy Certification (e.g., CIPP/E).
- Mastery of EMEA data protection and ePrivacy laws and regulations
- Demonstrated leadership skills including strong character & values, professionalism, and confidence.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral) with executives, business clients, and legal colleagues.
- Strong analytical, organisational and management skills, including change management skills to optimize legal support and resources.
- Ability to work effectively with others and with an appreciation of cultural diversity.
- Possess keen intellect, and credibility so as to interact effectively and influence management at all levels.
