Nursery Associate (m/f/d)
Bayer Crop Science is a leading agricultural company specializing in innovative crop protection products, seeds, and digital solutions to help farmers sustainably increase productivity.
The Nursery Associate will ensure execution of experimental protocols, proper agronomic practices and crop management techniques, high throughput data collection to enable advancements of vegetable produces.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee day-to-day operations for research nursery, DH production, seed inventory, and shipments, including greenhouse, field, and seed functions
- Utilize advanced research equipment and innovative technologies to support nursery programs
- Schedule activities based on crop cycles, manage workforce, and maintain records.
- Ensure efficient pollination and hand harvesting, optimizing resource use and forecasting
- Use metrics and quality control processes to improve accuracy and efficiency in protocols
- Collect data in enterprise systems, perform data quality checks to advance vegetable products and breeding programs
- Collaborate with TRA's/Breeders for off-site breeding data collection and analysis.
- Work with stakeholders to drive pipeline advancement and support crop placement.
- Manage tasks like capacity requests, transplanting, pollination, and harvest, working with Nursery & Crop Production Heads to execute plans
- Explore new technologies to increase capacity, speed up processes, and enhance data collection and seed production
- Identify opportunities for improvement and lead troubleshooting activities.
- Ensure compliance with Worker Protection Standards (WPS) and Bayer safety guidelines
- Perform tasks to ensure compliance with Bayer policies, including equipment maintenance and quality standards
- Manage seed health, inventory, and seed shipments (national and international)
- Be available outside business hours for crop care and emergency technical issues
WHO YOU ARE:
- Master's degree or bachelor's degree in plant breeding, horticulture, vegetal sciences or in a related field of research
- At least 6 months of experience in field crop or vegetables crop breeding/production research. More than 6 months of work experience will be a plus
- Proficient in computer software, with experience in experimental design, data collection and analysis to drive business results
- Advanced programming/coding skills are a plus
- Ability to perform successfully in a fast-paced, dynamic, team-based environment and manages multiple projects and priorities
- Strong problem solving, track record of process improvement, and critical thinking skills
- Demonstrated ability to influence partners and customers
- Capacity to communicate and work effectively with all management levels in a multi-cultural organization
- Passion to grow and willingness to be intellectually challenged and inspire others
- Residence or domicile in Lazio is preferred
- Fluent knowledge of English and Italian mother tongue
