About Us

A career at Hitachi Rail will help create a legacy. With operations in every corner of the world, our work goes to the cutting-edge of digital transformation and technology. From the multi-cultural strength of our global organisation to the sustainable and innovative ways we work to bring people together, there's something for everyone to get stuck into. And that's where you come in.

The Supply Chain Manager leads the strategic and operational management of supply chain activities for all metropolitan and railway Service & Maintenance operations within Region Italy. This role ensures material availability, cost optimization, and operational excellence by coordinating with Field Engineering, Procurement, and Operations teams. The position also oversees relationships with Operations & Maintenance, warranty lifecycle management, obsolescence planning, Make-or-Buy strategies, and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to support long-term asset reliability and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Governance

  • Define and implement a unified supply chain strategy supporting both long-term service contracts and short-term maintenance projects.
  • Represent the supply chain function in steering committees.

Project Coordination & Execution

  • Coordinate supply chain activities with Project Management, Engineering, Construction & Maintenance departments to ensure timely delivery of materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Oversee cross-border logistics operations, including transportation, customs, warehousing, and last-mile delivery to construction and maintenance sites.
  • Ensure alignment between material planning and project schedules to prevent delays and minimize downtime.

Planning, Procurement & Supplier Management

  • Manage procurement strategy in close alignment with the purchasing department, including supplier selection proposals, active participation in contract negotiations, and performance monitoring during execution.
  • Implement robust material planning in collaboration with engineering and project planning teams.
  • Develop and maintain strategic supplier partnerships to ensure reliability, innovation, and cost competitiveness.
  • Establish and manage SLAs with the O&M department to ensure timely deliveries, high quality standards, technical support, and responsiveness during the warranty phase.
  • Monitor and improve supplier KPIs across countries, ensuring On-Time-In-Full (OTIF), quality, and responsiveness.

OEM, Warranty & Obsolescence Management

  • Manage relationships with the O&M department to ensure access to certified components, technical documentation, and long-term service contracts.
  • Oversee warranty lifecycle management, including claims processing, monitoring, and integration with maintenance systems.
  • Develop and implement obsolescence strategies to mitigate risks related to aging assets, discontinued components, and technological transitions.
  • Conduct Make-or-Buy analyses for critical components and services, balancing cost, lead time, technical capability, and strategic control.

Systems, Processes & Digital Transformation

  • Implement standardized supply chain systems and infrastructure for tenders, new projects, and legacy upgrades.
  • Deploy and integrate IT tools (ERP, CMMS, analytics dashboards) across regions, ensuring real-time visibility and control.
  • Promote digital transformation initiatives such as predictive analytics, AI-based forecasting, and automated replenishment.

Performance, Compliance & Safety

  • Drive continuous improvement using best practices and lean-equivalent methodologies or frameworks.
  • Ensure compliance with global and local Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) regulations.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for inventory, logistics, and personnel across regions.
  • Establish and monitor global KPIs, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and customer satisfaction.

Leadership & Organizational Development

  • Build and lead a high-performing supply chain team across regions, fostering collaboration and accountability.
  • Design and implement organizational structures that support agility, scalability, and operational excellence.
  • Promote a culture of innovation, safety, and continuous learning within the supply chain organization.

Strategic Initiatives & Business Support

  • Support strategic supply chain projects and transformation programs based on business needs.
  • Lead risk management initiatives to mitigate supply disruptions, geopolitical challenges, and compliance risks.
  • Collaborate with finance and commercial teams to improve profitability through cost control and value engineering.
  • Ensure supply chain readiness for new markets, expansions, and consortium-led mega projects.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Master's degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Logistics, or Economics.
  • Proven leadership experience in Supply Chain, preferably in railway, infrastructure, or transportation sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multinational operations and cross-cultural teams.
  • Experience in project-based Supply Chain, construction logistics, and maintenance planning.
  • Strong knowledge of ERP EAM systems, CMMS platforms, and digital supply chain tools.
  • Experience managing O&M relationships, SLAs, warranty programs, and obsolescence planning.
  • Excellent negotiation, stakeholder management, and leadership skills.
  • Familiarity with SAP and Maximo.
  • Multilingual capabilities and cultural awareness are highly desirable.
