Lead AI Engineer

A global SaaS-focused strategy organization is seeking a
Lead AI Engineer
to design and drive the orchestration layer powering an advanced multi-agent reasoning system. This is a senior technical leadership role responsible for translating an ambitious AI product vision into a scalable, production-grade architecture.

Key Responsibilities

Architecture & System Design

  • Design and implement the AI Agent Orchestrator using LangGraph/LangChain and Model Context Protocol (MCP).
  • Build a stateful workflow engine supporting document processing, agent lifecycle management, and human-in-the-loop actions.
  • Define agent communication standards, JSON schemas, and lifecycle frameworks.
  • Develop an Agent Registry for agent versioning, discovery, and dynamic routing.
  • Create fault-tolerant workflows with retries, fallbacks, and partial-state preservation.
  • Implement a multi-model routing layer optimizing cost, latency, and accuracy across GPT, Claude, Gemini, and open-source models.

Implementation & Development

  • Build the Agent Executor to support reasoning loops, retrieval, and validation.
  • Develop core system agents (e.g., Retrieval, Reasoning, Memory, Query Understanding).
  • Implement asynchronous systems using RabbitMQ/Kafka/SQS for long-running workflows.
  • Create tools for prompt versioning, regression testing, and A/B experiments.
  • Build observability pipelines using OpenTelemetry, LangSmith, and custom tracing.

Integration & Collaboration

  • Partner with Knowledge Graph engineering to blend vector search with graph reasoning.
  • Work with Data Scientists to operationalize prompts, models, and reasoning chains.
  • Collaborate with frontend teams to deliver WebSocket/REST APIs for real-time interactions.
  • Integrate with backend services including ETL flows, validation utilities, and memory/session management.

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead architectural reviews and technical decision-making for the AI services layer.
  • Evaluate emerging models, frameworks, and tooling for agentic systems.
  • Define coding standards, testing approaches, and documentation practices.
  • Contribute to roadmap planning and guide junior AI engineers.

Candidate Profile

Experience

  • 8+ years in software engineering or AI/ML engineering.
  • 3+ years working directly with LLMs, agentic AI architectures, or multi-agent systems.
  • Proven experience delivering scalable AI systems in production.
  • Background in leading technical projects or engineering teams.

Technical Skills

  • Expert-level Python with asynchronous programming and type-hinting.
  • Deep experience with LangChain, LangGraph, or similar orchestration frameworks.
  • Hands-on experience with LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google) and prompt engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of FastAPI or similar async frameworks.
  • Experience with vector databases (Weaviate, Pinecone, FAISS, Chroma).
  • Familiarity with graph databases (Neo4j, TigerGraph) and languages like Cypher/SPARQL.
