About the Role

Shop Circle is hiring a Gen AI Engineer based in Milan to help build and deploy AI agents that automate real business use cases across customer experience, finance, tech development, legal, and marketing.

The role combines strong technical skills with a hands-on, practical approach. You'll move fast from prototype to production and work closely with cross-functional teams to deliver measurable impact.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and build internal AI agents
    that automate recurring business workflows using LLMs, custom tools, and orchestration frameworks.
    (Core task)
  • Translate business processes into agent flows
    by partnering with operations, support, finance, HR, and other teams to understand current workflows, edge cases, and success criteria.
  • Ensure reliability and guardrails
    by adding validation, error handling, fallbacks, and human-in-the-loop escalation for ambiguous or high-risk actions.
  • Evaluate AI agents' performance
    (latency, cost, task success, hallucination rate) and optimize prompts, tool selection, and agent architecture.
  • Set up monitoring and observability
    for agents in production to capture conversations, tool calls, failure modes, and user ratings to drive continuous improvement.
  • Develop and integrate new AI features and pipelines
    into our product portfolio, working directly with business units as needed.

  • Stay up to date
    with the latest tools, frameworks, and best practices in applied AI.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of experience
    in Software Engineering or AI Applications Engineering.
  • Strong Python skills
    and experience with LLMs, RAG, tool-use, and AI agent frameworks (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, Cohere, etc.).
  • Proficiency in Python backend development
    and familiarity with modern frameworks.
  • Good JavaScript or TypeScript skills
    for frontend development and integration.
  • Strong prompt and context engineering skills
    , with solid theoretical understanding of LLMs.
  • Proven experience
    turning software or AI prototypes into production-ready solutions.
  • Practical mindset
    — able to balance speed, quality, and scalability in execution.
