Controls Application Engineer

We are looking for Controls Application Engineer to join our team in Piove di Sacco, Italy
 

The Controls Application Engineer will report to the Chiller Controls Manager and will be responsible for analyzing, defining, documenting routines and features to be implemented into the standard application software for chillers, working together with the development team and validating the application both at bench test and Laboratory. Creating and maintaining related documentation. Interact with Business Functions as required.

What kind of work will you be doing?
 

Development of New Application Software

• Translates general requirements from various stakeholders (Offering, Engineering, Service) into step-by-step, simple and robust routines. 
   
• Documents the routines in high level language, defining the interactions with existing features if already present and foreseeing potential conflicts and limitations.
   
• Performs bench test of developed or under development routines, reporting back to developers and contributing to issue solution.
   
• Designs and performs functional tests of prototype units in Laboratory or at End of Line in production, occasionally also directly in the final installation.
   
• Validates the released software by performing any of the above-described tests.
   
• Deliver training and product handover to relevant stakeholders – Academy, Application Engineering and Service.
   
• Occasionally supports Business functions such as Engineering, Offering, Service
   

Application Software Life-Cycle Maintenance:

• Maintains existing software baselines by performing testing, proposing improvements and re-designing tasks, including the configuration management process.
   
• Review hardware and components evolution and phase-in/phase out, adapting and redesigning according to the need.
   
• Collaborate with Service and Quality teams to optimize products and ensure products stay up-to-date and continue to satisfy customer needs.
   
• Coordinate troubleshooting of high-level PLC issues with development teams, applying appropriate methodology. 
   
• Prepare training documents for maintenance and production teams, explaining the operation and troubleshooting of complex control systems.

Application Software

• Contribute in the overall design and development software applications based on given requirements and specifications
   
• Understand client requirements for GUI/communication interface, networking and create specifications based on these requirements
   
• Troubleshoot issues with already existing systems
   
• Technical writing including Software Sequence of Operation (SOO) 
   
• Requirement Reviews – Participate in reviews and work with Systems Engineering or Customers to ensure proper implementation of features
   
• Comply with the company safety procedures. Live the company culture of integrity and professional competence
   
• Provide timely and detailed status updates
   
• Quality – Ensure standards are maintained in a highly regulated, process driven environment

What will make you successful? 
 

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Information or a related field of study) OR the equivalent combination of education and/or years of relevant work experience.
   
• Minimum of 2 years relevant project experience working with controls and automation equipment related to development, debugging, setup as well as, support and troubleshooting of industrial chillers and/or air conditioners.
   
• Understanding of Programming Logic Controllers according to IEC standards or similar.
   
• Ideally, also understanding of other programming and scripting languages (C/C++, C#, Javascript, HTML), even academic.
   
• MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and general computer literacy
   
• Good English written and oral communication skills
   
• Must be a self-starter, team player, work well with others and have a positive attitude
   
• Must be a creative thinker, results oriented, focused, and attentive to detail and accuracy
   
• Must have ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
   
• Sharp, quick, dedicated and innovative problem solver
