As a
Financial Sanctions Specialist,
you'll join a collaborative and forward-thinking team based in Milan. Together, we will work in a dynamic and stimulating environment to enforce international financial sanctions and global risk management frameworks and ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and internal policy requirements. As part of the team, you will play a critical role in investigations, regulatory escalations, and sanctions operations oversight, helping safeguard Nexi against financial crime risks.
About Your Future Role
In this position, you will support the Head of the AML & Sanctions to:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant Sanctions regulations
- Keep abreast of regulatory changes and appropriately document policies, procedures, and investigative outcomes
- Define the Sanctions screening approach on customers, vendors, third parties and transactions against all relevant sanctions lists
- Identify red flags that may be associated with sanctions evasion
- Engage and collaborate across business lines to enhance existing sanctions screening tools and processes and identify and implement additional processes as needed
- Prepare reports and escalate significant risks and issues in a timely manner
- Support the execution against the Sanctions Programme, as needed, which may include serving as the main escalation point for sanctions alerts and complex investigations as well as projects with a focus on operational, strategic, or technological needs
- Manage requests from financial institutions and authorities, ensuring timely and accurate reporting

Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in STEM, Economics or Law
- 5+ years of experience in sanctions operations, financial crime compliance, or AFC investigations within banking, fintech, or payments
- Deep knowledge of global financial sanctions frameworks and requirements
- Strong understanding of sanctions risks, screening methodologies, and case-handling processes, with expertise in investigations and escalations
- Familiarity with sanctions screening tools, alert adjudication processes, and regulatory reporting requirements
- Experience working with regulatory inquiries, audits, and financial institution sanctions compliance requirements.
- Capability of working independently, taking on high-level tasks and expanding into detailed projects or policies
- Team oriented with solid communication abilities
- Fluent in Italian and English (both written and spoken)
- Proficient in MS Office
Bonus Skills:
- Experience in process optimization, with a proactive mindset for improving sanctions alert handling workflows
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with IA tools and related emerging technologies (e.g., machine learning, natural language processing, RPA)
