DURATION: 7 months (4 December 2025 to 30 June 2026)
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The current prevalence of malnutrition in children is alarming. Over 50 million children suffer from acute malnutrition and over 150 million suffer from stunting. Maternal and child undernutrition is the underlying cause of approximately 45% of all mortality in children under 5. Not only does undernutrition levels remain stubbornly high, but numbers of overweight persons are growing exponentially, even in poor countries.
As the United Nations frontline agency in the fight against hunger and malnutrition, the World Food Programme (WFP) is adapting to meet the current and emerging global nutrition challenges. This includes enhancing organisational capacity to reach vulnerable populations affected by acute malnutrition, as well as expanding our portfolio to find lasting solutions for populations affected by poor diets and chronic malnutrition.
The purpose of the assignment is to support WFP nutrition to undertake writing projects, edit and update materials to the highest standards and/or support the ongoing work of the Engagement Team as required.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working closely with the various teams in the Nutrition, School Meals & Social Protection Service and under the direct supervision of the Engagement Team Lead, the candidate will perform the following duties:
1. Project manage all external communications on WFP's nutrition work, including web copy, articles, social media posts, video scripts, media requests and flagship reports.
2. Write highest-standard copy to demystify nutrition for key internal and external audiences, (including but not limited to donor-facing documents, talking points, speeches, scripts and briefs).
3. Support the Director of Nutrition, School Meals & Social Protection with talking points and speeches for speaking engagements.
4. Actively increase the use of storytelling for external and internal audiences, and identify strategic opportunities to tell and promote WFP's nutrition story.
5. Nurture relationships with key internal divisions to ensure nutrition is included in WFP corporate communications and reports, and that senior management teams are provided with clear nutrition messaging and priorities.
6. Perform other related duties, as required.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT:
• Fully delivered media and editorial content to the highest standards for a variety of key audiences including, but not limited to, WFP donors and other key stakeholders.
• Support to the advocacy and communications pillar of the nutrition strategy, including finding ways to elevate the voices of the people we serve.
• Socialisation of the nutrition strategy and WFP's work in nutrition through the use of multimedia and other relevant channels
• Multimedia assets and campaigns to highlight WFP's nutrition work in crisis settings, engaging a variety of audiences, including media, donors and partners.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education: Advanced University degree in English, English Literature, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, International Relations or other relevant field, or First University degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.
Experience: At least 6 years of relevant professional experience with developing, writing and producing editorial reports, policy documents, copy and corporate communications products on the topic of nutrition and food security to engage various audiences, with a special focus on donors.
Knowledge & Skills:
• Superb writing and editing skills, including a strong understanding of storytelling as well as a strong background in editorial work
• Close attention to details
• Ability to manage time, prioritize (according to organizational priorities)
Languages:
Fluency in English required; Knowledge of a second UN language would be an asset.
