Job Title: Assistant Controller
Employment Type: Full-Time, Remote
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST
Salary: $2,500 – $3,000/month (based on experience)

About the Role
The Assistant Controller serves as the central point for all accounting and finance administration across Milestone's property and operating entities. The role requires a proactive self-starter who can work independently and drive efficiencies to improve the company's financial results.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close and reporting across all business units
Prepare and file all state and federal tax returns for corporate and personal entities
Conduct regular tax planning and entity structure reviews
Identify and pursue tax-saving opportunities
Compile investment reports and communicate updates with investors
Facilitate investment distribution payments
Handle contract facilitation for new development projects
Create annual operating budgets for each entity
Prepare and evaluate new development/acquisition proformas and provide recommendations
Identify opportunities for increased revenue and expense reduction across entities
Prepare investment models for new projects
Coordinate financing and information requests from banks and investors
Evaluate institutional debt obligations for savings and risk mitigation
Oversee bank account reconciliation for all entities
Process state filings and business entity reports
Facilitate 1099s and other tax-related documentation
Manage credit card expense reconciliation
Facilitate payroll for Milestone Development & Lighthouse Storage
Perform internal audits of accounts quarterly
Complete operating agreements for new entities
Oversee cash flow management for all entities
Analyze return on equity invested and track investment performance
Maintain monthly investment spreadsheets with charts using PivotTables or Power BI
Conduct cost segregation studies
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field
Minimum 5+ years of progressive accounting experience (construction and real estate experience preferred)
Solid understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
Experience with inter-company reconciliation and job costing
Prior experience overseeing or mentoring accounting staff
Experience managing multiple entities or lines of business is a plus
Proficient in MS Excel, Outlook, and Word
Accounts Payable/Receivable experience
Experience with NetSuite, Sage, or other ERP systems
Payroll processing experience
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
Team-oriented professional attitude
Note: This position may require 40–50 hours per week.
