ARESYS is an Italian SME providing innovative satellite-based sensingsolutions to the Space and Defense markets.

ARESYS offers a 20+ years of expertise in designing and developing on-board and on-groundsystems with a vertical specialization in microwawe (Radar, SAR) and Optical technologies.

We are seeking a Mechatronic Engineer to join our space systems engineering team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing mechanical components for CubeSats, SmallSats, test benches, electronic enclosures, and deployable mechanisms.

This role requires a strong background in mechanical design, precision engineering, and knowledge of space-qualified materials and manufacturing techniques.

Main tasks and responsibilities:
  • Design and develop mechanical structures and mechanisms for CubeSats and SmallSats, ensuring compliance with space environment requirements.
  • Develop electronic enclosures with proper thermal and structural considerations for avionics and payload integration.
  • Design test benches for qualification and validation of space systems, including structural and thermal testing.
  • Conduct structural, thermal, and vibration analysis using FEA and simulation tools.
  • Select and integrate materials and coatings compatible with space applications, including low outgassing, RF transparency, and radiation resistance.
  • Collaborate with electrical and systems engineers to ensure mechanical designs meet overall spacecraft requirements.
  • Oversee prototyping, assembly, and testing of mechanical components and mechanisms.
  • Work with manufacturing partners to ensure DFM (Design for Manufacturing) and DFA (Design for Assembly) principles are applied.
  • Participate in environmental and qualification testing, including vibration, thermal vacuum, and shock tests.
  • Document designs, perform trade studies, and contribute to design reviews.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in mechanical design for space or aerospace applications.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, Fusion 360, or Creo).
  • Knowledge of FEA and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, or Nastran).
  • Familiarity with space-grade materials, coatings, and fasteners.
  • Understanding of thermal management and structural integrity in space systems.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, 3D printing, and precision machining.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams including electrical, thermal, and systems engineers.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to solve complex mechanical challenges.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge of additive manufacturing techniques for space applications.
  • Familiarity with satellite standards (CubeSat, ECSS, NASA GEVS, MIL-STD-1540, etc.).
  • Experience with environmental testing for space hardware.
  • Optional plus: experience with deployable mechanisms, hinges, and release mechanisms
What We Offer:
  • Opportunity to work on cutting-edge space technologies and satellite missions.
  • A dynamic and innovative work environment.
  • Competitive salary and benefits package.
  • Hands-on experience with real spaceflight hardware and testing.

If you are passionate about space engineering and mechanical design, we encourage you to apply and be part of our mission to advance small satellite technologies.
