WSP is one of the world's leading engineering and professional services firms, specializing in environmental consulting, infrastructure, earth & environment, and sustainable development.
We have a clear vision of how we want to help make the world a better place, by supporting communities and driving the transition toward a safer, cleaner and more resilient environment.
WSP Italia is seeking an Environmental Engineer/Scientist to join our Development & Remediation Industrial & Commercial Business Unit in Milan.
By joining WSP, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary and cross-national team dedicated to the development of environmental projects in Italy and worldwide. WSP offers world-class expertise in contaminated site management, hydrogeology, risk assessment, remediation design, environmental due diligence and complex industrial projects.
YOUR NEW ROLE, WHAT'S INVOLVED?
In this role, you will perform environmental tasks requiring knowledge of environmental science and remediation engineering. You will contribute to projects using established methods, supporting activities in the following areas:
Technical Design & Documentation
Drafting and revising site characterisation plans (soil, groundwater, soil-gas, waste, ambient air).
Preparing conceptual/feasibility studies, remediation plans, and technical deliverables.
Developing calculations, simulations, and preliminary analyses for remediation systems (e.g., pump & treat, SVE, air sparging, chemical oxidation, bioremediation).
Assisting with technical specifications, bills of quantities, and tender documents.
Field Activities & Site Operations
Supporting site investigations, including piezometer installation, drilling supervision, sampling, soil-gas surveys, and aquifer tests.
Assisting in installation, commissioning, testing, and O&M of remediation systems.
Conducting field verifications, progress monitoring, and reporting.
Supporting due diligence for industrial, brownfield, and greenfield sites.
Modelling & Environmental Assessment
Contributing to human health risk assessments and contaminant fate & transport modeling.
Supporting hydrological/hydrogeological modeling, including floodplain/drainage analysis and HEC-RAS use.
Drafting technical reports, environmental assessments, and progress documents.
Coordination & Collaboration
Working with multidisciplinary teams (geology, hydrogeology, H&S, permitting).
Supporting Project Managers with scheduling, project controls, and quality assurance.
Providing technical guidance to junior staff.
Delivering high-quality work within scope, schedule, and budget.
Expectations: follow through on commitments, ensure accuracy, maintain safe work practices, communicate effectively, take on varied tasks, and be receptive to feedback. Building a professional network to support workload and career growth is encouraged.
WHAT IF IT WAS YOU?
The ideal candidate will have 5–10 years of experience as an Environmental Engineer or Scientist in environmental consulting, with a focus on contaminated site investigation, remediation design, and environmental modeling. You should have strong experience in site investigation, remediation, and O&M activities, including conducting field campaigns and coordinating with contractors and laboratories.
A solid understanding of hydrogeology, geochemistry, and remediation technologies is required, along with knowledge of Human Health Risk Assessment, modeling tools, and environmental data interpretation. Familiarity with D.Lgs. 152/2006 e s.m.i., particularly Part IV, Title V (bonifiche), and experience in technical reporting, due diligence, and environmental compliance are highly valued.
You should be able to support Project Managers, coordinate small project teams, manage multiple projects under tight deadlines, and demonstrate strong attention to detail. Experience with remediation system design, FEED and detailed engineering, and innovative technologies such as ISCO, ERD, SVE/AS, or MPE is a plus.
Proficiency in MS Office, GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS), AutoCAD, modeling tools (e.g., MODFLOW-based platforms, risk assessment tools), and basic hydrological modeling (e.g., HEC-RAS) is required.
A Master's degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil/Hydraulic Engineering, Geology, or Environmental Sciences is required, along with fluency in Italian and good written and spoken English.
