I'm supporting a long-standing client in Milan who are growing their radar engineering group and are looking to bring in an RF Engineer with strong experience across RF, microwave and mixed-signal systems. This is a great option for someone who wants to work on real end-to-end RF hardware for satellite and airborne radar platforms — from high-frequency front ends through to system-level integration.

As an RF Engineer, you'll be involved in the design, development, testing and characterisation of RF solutions for advanced SAR radar applications. You'll work closely with a technical project lead to make sure designs meet performance requirements, assess when to re-use existing architectures versus creating new ones, and support platform-level integration for both airborne and space environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop circuits, RF boards and integrated RF systems for radar applications
  • Create RF front-end architectures covering antenna to baseband digitalisation.
  • Verify compliance to technical specifications and optimise designs for mission requirements
  • Evaluate re-use of known solutions or propose new concepts where needed.
  • Support the transfer, integration and validation of hardware on airborne and satellite platforms
  • Conduct RF testing, characterisation and troubleshooting

Required Experience

  • Strong background in RF system design across RF, analogue and digital control subsystems
  • Knowledge of RF PCB layout practices up to K-band
  • Hands-on experience with EM/RF simulation tools such as CST, ADS, MWO, HFSS, Sonnet, AN-SOF
  • Proficiency with circuit simulation tools (LTspice, ADS, QUCS, Tina)
  • Experience with PCB/electronic design tools (Altium, Cadence, KiCad)
  • Familiarity with system analysis environments (MATLAB RF Toolbox, Simulink, LabVIEW)
  • Solid RF measurement skills (VNA, spectrum analysers, wideband test equipment)
  • Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and communicate technical concepts clearly
  • Fluent English

Nice To Have

  • Exposure to radar or remote sensing applications
  • Experience working on airborne or satellite hardware programmes
  • Leadership qualities or technical ownership within project teams

This is a strong move for an RF Engineer who wants to work across full RF product lifecycles with genuinely interesting space and airborne technology, without the bureaucracy of a huge defence prime.
