Job description
Mission
At Digital Pills, our mission is to empower businesses with the strategic use of data. As a Cloud Data Engineer, you will work on complex, end-to-end projects where data engineering, cloud engineering and software engineering strongly intersect.
You will design and implement data pipelines, cloud infrastructures and backend services, working autonomously across multiple technical layers in highly heterogeneous and evolving environments.
This role is ideal for engineers with strong IT foundations who enjoy solving complex problems and working on diverse, non-standard projects.
As a Data Engineer Specialist, the results we expect you to contribute are as follows:
- Design and build cloud-native data pipelines and data platforms on GCP, Azure and AWS
- Design and operate cloud infrastructure (networking, IAM, services, monitoring)
- Develop backend services and connectors in Python
- Collaborate closely with consultants, product teams and clients to design robust and scalable architectures
- Take ownership of technical solutions end-to-end, from design to production
Work on advanced projects involving:
- complex system integrations
- data replication and synchronization
- productized ETL platforms
- AI-powered services and Copilot-like architectures, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, MCP servers and LLM-based API integrations
Education & experience
- Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering, cloud engineering or backend engineering
- Strong interest in working across data, cloud and software layers
Hard skills (essentials)
- Fluent in Italian
- Data Engineering
- Advanced SQL and data modeling
- Experience building and operating ETL / ELT pipelines
- Strong understanding of data warehouses and transactional databases
- Programming & Software Engineering
- Strong Python for backend services and data pipelines
- Experience with Git, code reviews and collaborative development
- Ability to write clean, testable and maintainable code
- Cloud Engineering
- Hands-on experience with GCP, Azure or AWS
- Experience with:
- IAM and service accounts

- Cloud Run / Functions / VM

- Ability to design and operate cloud infrastructure autonomously

Hard skills (desirable)
- AI Services, RAG & LLM Integrations:
Experience with designing and integrating AI-powered services via API (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic, Azure OpenAI), including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems, Copilot-like architectures and MCP servers. This includes building backend systems that orchestrate LLM calls, manage authentication, rate limits, latency and error handling, and ensure reliable integration of AI components within data and cloud architectures.
- ML Ops
: Experience with deploying machine learning models in cloud environments and understanding the integration between data engineering pipelines and ML models. This skill set ensures efficient operationalization of ML models and seamless data flow between data engineering tasks and machine learning operations.
- Analytics Engineering
: Knowledge in the analytics and martech (marketing technology) sector, including experience with handling Google Analytics raw data. This encompasses skills in transforming raw data into actionable insights, building data models for analytics purposes, and leveraging data for marketing strategies and decisions.
- Agile Methodologies
: Familiarity with Agile work practices, including Scrum or Kanban. This includes the ability to work in fast-paced, iterative development cycles, collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, and adapt to changing project requirements. Agile methodologies emphasize continuous improvement, flexibility, and the delivery of high-quality work products in a structured yet adaptable framework.
