Software Engineer – Data Infrastructure – KafkaCanonical is building a comprehensive automation suite to provide multi-cloud and on-premise data solutions for the enterprise.The data platform team develops managed solutions for a full range of data stores and technologies, from big data and NoSQL to structured SQL engines.We are tackling fault-tolerant, mission-critical distributed systems and aim to deliver the world's best automation for data platforms.We want candidates from junior to senior level with interests and experience in Big Data technologies such as distributed event-stores (Kafka) and parallel computing frameworks (Spark).Engineers thrive at Canonical by balancing open-source community dynamics with the needs of large, innovative organisations.Location: This role can be filled in European, Middle East and African time zones.What your day will look likeThe data platform team automates data platform operations, managing and integrating Big Data platforms at scale.The role focuses on creating and automating infrastructure features, not on analyzing or processing the data.Collaborate proactively with a distributed team.Write high-quality, idiomatic Python code to add new features.Debug issues and interact with upstream communities publicly.Work with talented engineers, including subject-matter experts.Discuss ideas and collaborate on solutions.Work from home, with global travel for 2–4 weeks per year for internal and external events.What we are looking forHands-on experience developing Python software.Experience with distributed systems such as Kafka and Spark.University degree in Computer Science, STEM or a related field.Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.Additional skills that may helpOperating and managing other data platform technologies (SQL, NoSQL).Linux system administration, package management, infrastructure operations.Public cloud or private cloud solutions (OpenStack, etc.).Operating Kubernetes clusters for persistent data services.What we offerFully remote working environment.Personal learning and development budget of 2,000 USD per year.Annual compensation review.Recognition rewards, annual holiday leave, parental leave.Employee Assistance Programme.Opportunity to travel to new locations to meet colleagues twice a year.Priority Pass for travel and upgrades for long-haul company events.Canonical is an equal-opportunity employer.We are proud to foster a workplace free from discrimination.Diversity of experience, perspectives, and background create a better work environment and better products.Whatever your identity, we will give your application fair consideration.#J-*****-Ljbffr
