Principal Applied Scientist, Amazon BusinessThe External System Integration (ESI) team enables Amazon Business to be the preferred procurement solution for enterprises through seamless integrations with external procurement systems. ESI team's charter focuses on allowing businesses of all sizes to integrate Amazon Business with their existing infrastructure (procurement, website, mobile applications, automated systems, etc).As the ESI team's Principal Applied Scientist, you'll be at the forefront of applying AI to solve real-world business problems that directly impact Amazon's fastest-growing segment. In this role you'll have the unique opportunity to build AI systems that serve millions of business customers. This role combines the intellectual challenge of novel AI research with immediate business impact. This is an exciting opportunity to establish AI leadership in B2B procurement working on problems at scale that do not exist anywhere else in the industry.Principal Applied Scientist's at Amazon are trusted technical leaders who tackle intrinsically complex scientific problems by leveraging experience and expertise with machine learning algorithms. They are capable of working with a diverse set of stakeholders and influencing leaders by converting ideas into business impact.Key job responsibilitiesDefine key research directions by adopting state-of-the-art technology and innovating new solutionsPerform rigorous experiments to convert ideas into actual business impactDevelop long-term strategies, influence teams to adopt those strategies, and jointly design and deliver on goalsParticipate in organizational planning, hiring, mentorship and leadership developmentAcquire domain expertise and in-depth understanding of related engineering systemsContribute through patenting and publishingBasic Qualifications5+ years of hands-on work in predictive modeling and analysis experiencePhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical fieldExperience working in predictive modeling and analysisExperience distilling informal customer requirements into problem definitions, dealing with ambiguity and competing objectivesExperience programming in Java, C++, Python or related languageExperience with leading experienced scientists as well as having a record of developing junior members from academia or industry to a career track in a business environmentPreferred Qualifications10+ years of relevant work in industry or academia experienceKnowledge of problem solving, algorithm design and complexity analysisExperience creating novel algorithms and advancing the state of the artHave peer-reviewed scientific contributions in premier journals and conferencesOur inclusive culture empowers Amazonians to deliver the best results for our customers.
