Progress Rail Signaling, part of Progress Rail, a Caterpillar company, offers complete signaling solutions under the ECM brand for any railway infrastructure need all over the world.Job PurposeThe System Engineer will deliver accurate and competitive system and sub systems technical solution for projects and bidswith a balanced risk level and will analyze the System – Subsystems Architecture, defining and allocating requirements, evaluating design trade-offs, balancing technical risk, defining and assessing interfaces, keeping close coordination with verification and validation activities and with project deployment activities, in line with the System / Subsystem Roadmap.Job duties (Responsibilities and Accountabilities)Manage the technical contractual scope of the Project / Tender;Manage the tendersolution, meaning the customization and parameterization of the generic solution to meet Quality, Cost, Delivery and Performance (QCDP) requirements;Ensure that the system technically fulfils the defined needs and enhancements (change requests) and that a proper system engineering approach is followed.Analyze, with the support ofSystem and Subsystems specialiststhe potential gaps between the customer's specification and company generic Systems and Products (R&D Solution Manager for the product GAPs);Ensure technical consistency and alignment with R&Dteams / or / Project Engineering teams throughout the development, providing technical support to V&V, and support to Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety Analysis.Minimize, by design, the System deployment cost, lead time and risks.Commit on the technical part of the bids and ensure it is in line with Company Solutions strategy;Get technical validation of R&D Solution Manager, Engineering Technical Advisor and of Engineering Director;Contribute to the ProjectsEngineering quotation and risks evaluation;He/She is accountable for the production of the technical documentation to be provided with the tender proposal;He/She is accountable for the developing of the system documents, including plans, specifications and other technical documents;Functionally lead the engineering team during tender phase;Support Bid Manager in defining the optimal compliance strategy ;Coordinate, on a technical point of view, the bid internal stakeholders (Installation, Testing & Commissioning, ApplicationEngineering, Products Engineering and R&D);Coordinate, on a technical point of view, the bid external stakeholders (if applicable) to ensure overall understanding of the bid technical strategy (incl. scheme plan, rough BOM: Bill Of Material, migration strategy, ...);Build analysis and/or clause-by-clause of technical bid documents;Support the Bid Manager during the negotiation with the Customer, identifying any technical change during that phaseContribute to system configuration activities, to requirement management activities;Ensure that the system follows standardization approach by reusing existing solutions or by implementing reusable solutions, and by providing for generic System/product an efficient system deployment kit (tools, user documentation...);Support R&D Solution Manager / AE Technical Advisor / AE Engineering Director to define/perform knowledge capitalization.Experience and QualificationsThe candidate should have a consistent and complete professional experience in a similar position acquired in multinational industrial contexts transportation/ railway /signaling, as well as in particular proven experience with high-level programming languages such as C, C++, Java etc.A degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics or equivalent experience in related fields is essential.As technology develops at an ever increasing pace, it is critical for Software Engineers to stay up to date with the latest developments in hardware, systems and coding.As well as formal qualifications, a Software Engineer profile shall emphasize:A passion for solving problems and providing workable solutionsKnowledge of algorithms and data structuresStrong analytical and reasoning skills with an ability to visualize processes and outcomesProficiency in troubleshooting software issues and debugging a large codebaseOutstanding all-round communication skills and ability to work collaborativelyGood English knowledge is also required (B2);Working with usOur people are at the heart of what we do at PRS.
