this position is to promote fitness and educate our patrons in proper equipment utilization and exercise programs.ResponsibilitiesProvides customer service to patrons using the facility, including greeting customers, checking identification cards to ensure only authorized users are entering the facility, issuing and receiving gear/equipment, and registering patrons for facility use, events, and/or classes.Answers telephone calls, providing information regarding facility hours of operation, upcoming special events, and programs.Completes the Daily Activity Reports, handles cash where fees apply, verifies the amount of money collected, and drops the cashier bag in the drop safe.Assists in planning, scheduling, and publicizing various activities and maintaining related supplies to attract and motivate participants.Oversees the sale of retail items associated with activities.Evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing MWR fitness activities from the standpoint of participants' responses, resources, and program objectives.Monitors patrons, volunteers, and contractors at the assigned program or event and reports any issues to management.Assists in selecting fitness, sports, and aquatics activities to be offered, both within the required basic program categories and additional ones per available resources and participant interests.Monitors assigned participants in indoor and outdoor activities, including intramural sporting events.Conducts instructional classes in the assigned recreational area.Performs basic fitness orientation; identifies and corrects unsafe fitness techniques.Demonstrates procedures common to the activities and instructs in the use of related equipment.Establishes and reviews the schedule of events, conducts tours, sets up and prepares gymnasiums, facilities, and playing fields before scheduled events (e.g., lap swim, lifeguard training, exercise programs, races, pool parties, sporting events).Ensures adherence to regulations and safety procedures.Ensures facility and sporting fields are open and closed at posted times.Monitors and checks the security of premises.Monitors activity within the facility, circulating among patrons to assist with basic use of equipment/gear and maintain good order and discipline.Ensures athletic playing surfaces are properly maintained, safe, and ready for play.Assists in cleaning and maintaining equipment and facilities, maintains inventory, performs general janitorial services to keep interior spaces clean, neat, and orderly.Makes minor repairs to facilities and equipment when appropriate and assists with outdoor maintenance.Reports maintenance problems, material deficiencies, and unsafe conditions that cannot be repaired in-house to the supervisor.RequirementsMale candidates born after December 31, ****, and at least 18 years of age, must certify registration with the Selective Service System.Must satisfactorily complete all background checks, including a fingerprint check and National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).Must pass a pre-employment medical examination.Work schedule is subject to change and may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and split days off.Must obtain Emergency First Responder or CPR/First Aid/AED certification within the first 30 days.Must obtain Automated External Defibrillator Certification, Blood-borne Pathogen Certification, and Navy Basic Fitness Certification within the first 90 days.QualificationsSix (6) months of general experience *and* six (6) months of specialized experience in fitness at the NF-01 level or equivalent, **or** two (2) years of education above high school that included at least 12 semester hours in courses related to recreation/physical education or related fields.General experience includes any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of this position.Specialized experience is experience at the NF-01 level (or equivalent) typically related to this position.Applicants must attach copies of transcripts, certificates, or other acceptable evidence to receive credit for education.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (K.S.A.)Knowledge of MWR policies, rules, and regulations involving the work area.Knowledge of basic arithmetic to compute charges, disperse change accurately, and prepare reports.Knowledge of cash handling procedures.Knowledge of basic fitness, aquatics, and sports principles.Knowledge of safe use and operation of fitness equipment, facility operations, and basic fitness equipment maintenance/repair.Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and related software.Skill and ability to provide fitness, aquatics, and sports training or orientation.Ability to competently and independently carry out day-to-day recreation operations.Ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations and/or training.Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.EducationApplicants who wish to use education as a substitution for experience, or a combination of education and experience, must attach a copy of college transcripts or certificates.Transcripts from foreign colleges must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.Applicants are responsible for obtaining and submitting proof of creditability via a private U.S. credentialing agency.Additional InformationNote: The NATO Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) between Italy and the United States prohibits the hiring of any person who holds Italian citizenship and is considered a Dual National by the Italian Government into any U.S. position.Those U.S. citizens ordinarily resident in Italy are also ineligible.Contractors and their family members are likewise
