How to Apply To apply, visit the recruitment website at Jobs at FAO and complete your online profile.We strongly recommend that your profile is accurate, complete and includes your employment records, academic qualifications and language skills.Candidates are requested to attach a letter of motivation to the online profile.Once your profile is completed, please apply and submit your application.Only applications received through the FAO recruitment portal will be considered.Your application will be screened based on the information provided in your online profile.We encourage applicants to submit the application well before the deadline date.Organizational Setting FAO is the specialized Agency of the United Nations leading international efforts to defeat hunger.The Finance Division (CSF) recommends and administers financial policies and procedures, keeps accounts, prepares reports and ensures that the Organization's financial resources are securely kept and productively employed.The post is located at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, in CSF's Treasury and Banking Operations Branch (CSFT), which manages the Organization's liquidity and oversees investment portfolios and banking operations.Reporting Lines The Financial Legal Support Officer reports to the Senior Finance Officer Head of Treasury and Banking.Technical Focus Provide procedural advice to ensure efficient and effective investment payment and banking services and support the contracting activities of the Treasury and Banking Operations Branch in compliance with the relevant FAO rules and regulations.Key Results Ensure that treasury and banking operations activities comply with FAO's established policies, procedures, and rules and reflect best practice.Key Functions Provide advisory support on legal aspects related to banking, investment or payment processes, liaising with the Legal Office as appropriate.Participate in meetings with financial counterparties to assist in the negotiation of contractual terms and conditions.Draft complex contracts, reviews investment payment and banking agreements, formulate special legal provisions and draft formal letters that may have legal implications.Draft guidelines, documents and communications relevant to treasury and banking operations around legal matters and risk mitigation.Prepare reviews of specific financial regulatory changes which may impact the Treasury and Banking Operations Branch.Assist in the initial review of financial contracts before submission for legal clearance.Minimum Requirements Advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent) in law with an emphasis on commercial contract law; or first level university degree in law combined with an additional two years of relevant work experience and completion of professional qualification to practice law in a national jurisdiction.Five years of professional legal experience in commercial contract law, including at least two years in finance, banking, asset management or financial services.Working knowledge (proficiency level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (level B) of one of the other official FAO languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish).Competencies Results Focus, Teamwork, Communication, Building Effective Relationships, Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement.Technical / Functional Skills Experience in more than one location or area, especially in field positions, is desirable.Experience within international institutions (central banks, multilateral entities, sovereign funds, banks, insurance companies, asset management firms).Experience in advisory support in commercial contract law, finance, banking, asset management, and drafting procurement procedures, solicitation documents and contractual instruments.Demonstrated experience drafting complex contracts with substantial legal content in English.General Information Extension of fixed-term appointments is based on certification of performance and availability of funds.FAO reserves the right not to make an appointment.Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit, meets accreditation, visa and security clearance requirements.Conditions of Service A competitive compensation and benefits package is offered.Other benefits subject to eligibility include: dependency allowances, rental subsidy, education grant for children, home leave travel, 30 working days of annual leave per year, pension fund entitlements under the UN Joint Staff Pension Fund, international health insurance, optional life insurance.#J-*****-Ljbffr
