Director / VP of EngineeringThis position is based in Bulgaria.The Director / VP of Engineering will lead and optimize cross-functional engineering teams, driving technical excellence, innovation, and operational efficiency across product development.This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on technical involvement, ensuring high-quality, scalable, and secure software solutions.You will work closely with Product, Design, and other departments to align engineering initiatives with business goals, while mentoring managers and key contributors.The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic, remote-first environment, balances technical depth with leadership acumen, and is passionate about building high-performing, collaborative engineering cultures.This role is pivotal in shaping long-term engineering strategy and execution.AccountabilitiesDesign, implement, and maintain efficient engineering team structures to meet organizational objectivesRecruit, onboard, and train engineering staff, fostering professional growth and developmentCollaborate with Product, Design, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of engineering efforts with business goalsDrive process improvements, best practices, and high standards across development, quality assurance, and operationsProvide technical guidance on software architecture, technology stack, and prioritization of technical debtMentor engineering managers and key contributors, conducting performance reviews and implementing career growth plansOversee budget allocation for engineering resources, software, and hardwarePromote a culture of excellence, collaboration, and innovation across distributed teamsRequirements8+ years of experience in a product company with cross-departmental collaboration3+ years as Director of Engineering, Senior Engineering Manager, or Head of Engineering3+ years as a Senior Software Engineer with full-stack development experience2+ years managing managers and leading high-performing teamsExperience with Agile, DevOps, and software development lifecycle (SWDL)Proven ability to build scalable, secure, and highly available backend systemsExperience implementing performance metrics (DORA, KPI, OKR)Strong communication skills and ability to lead remote and distributed teams across time zonesTechnical expertise in system design, backend, frontend, and databasesBenefitsFully remote, distributed team environmentFlexible time off and paid parental leave (612 weeks)Gym / wellness stipend ($50 / month)State-of-the-art tech equipment for home office setupOpportunity to shape engineering culture and strategy in a fast-growing companyCollaborative and high-performing team environment with focus on transparency and innovation#J-*****-Ljbffr
