System Engineer

Free2Move eSolutions( a Stellantis company ( ready to become an international leader in the design, manufacture and supply ofe-mobility products and services, is looking for aSystem Engineerwith strong technical expertise and systems-level understanding of distributed energy resources (DER), Virtual Power Plants (VPPs), and Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) with Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) capability.The ideal candidate will be responsible fordesigning, integrating, and managing control systemsthat connect EV charging infrastructure, local controllers, and energy management platforms into aggregated VPP frameworks.This role requires a combination ofelectrical engineering, embedded systems, communication protocols, and project coordination skills.Key Responsibilities:1. System Design & IntegrationLead system architecture and technical design forVPP and EVSE/V2Gintegration projects.Develop and maintainsystem-level documentation, including interface control documents, network topology, and control logic flow.Designlocal control systemsfor EVSE with V2G capability (AC and/or DC), ensuring compliance with grid and safety standards.Supportfirmware and software integrationbetween local controllers, cloud platforms, and utility interfaces.Evaluate and select suitable communication protocols (e.g., OCPP , Modbus, IEC *****, MQTT, IEEE ******).2. Project Management & CoordinationCollaborate withcross-functional teams(hardware, firmware, software, grid operators, OEMs) to ensure timely and technically compliant delivery.Participate insystem validation, testing, and commissioningat lab and field levels.Manage project milestones, technical documentation, and customer deliverables.Liaise withutilities, aggregators, and technology partnersto align integration requirements.3. Research & DevelopmentSupport the development ofnext-generation AC V2G EVSEhardware and control algorithms.Contribute to R&D efforts related togrid services, such as frequency regulation, demand response, and energy optimization.Stay updated onindustry standards and certification requirements(e.g., ISO *****, UL ****, IEEE ****, EN *****).Qualifications & Skills:Education:Bachelor's or Master's degree inElectrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Mechatronics, or Computer Engineering.Technical Skills:Strong understanding ofpower systems,DER integration, andV2G concepts.Experience incontrol systemsandembedded systems development.Proficiency withPLC/RTU systems, microcontrollers, or industrial automation environments.Familiarity withenergy management systems,cloud-based IoT architectures, anddata analyticsfor energy applications.Experience working withOCPP,ISO *****, andIEC *****communication protocols.Knowledge ofAC power electronics, grid interconnection standards, andcharging station hardware.Nice to have programming capabilities in simulation and modeling tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, Python, or similar).Soft Skills:Strong analytical and problem-solving mindset.Excellent communication and documentation skills. Fluent Italian and English (French can be a plus)Proven ability to work collaboratively inmultidisciplinary engineering teams.Self-motivated with ahands-on approachto prototyping and testing.Project management experience is a strong plus (e.g., Agile or PMP practices).Objectives of the Role (First 12 Months):Lead system integrationfor at least one pilot VPP–EVSE project, ensuring interoperability between EV chargers and the VPP platform.Develop and validate alocal controller prototypefor V2G AC chargers with grid service capability.Support certification and compliance testing for the company'sAC V2G EVSEproduct line.Establish technical documentation and design guidelines for scalable deployment of VPP-ready EVSE systems.Preferred Experience:Experience withDERMS,SCADA, orenergy aggregation platforms.Hands-on work withEVSE firmwareorcontroller development.Exposure toutility grid operations,smart grid, orrenewable integration projects.Familiarity withcybersecurity standardsin energy systems (IEC *****, ISO *****).What We Offer:Opportunity to shape cutting-edgesmart grid and e-mobilitysolutions.Work with an international (Italy, France, US), multidisciplinary team of innovators.Professional development opportunities.
