Junior Data Scientist

We are looking for a Junior Data Scientist to join the Humanitas AI Center, a multidisciplinary research unit dedicated to the development and application of Artificial Intelligence in healthcare.The selected candidate will contribute to applied clinical AI research projects focused on the analysis of structured and tabular clinical data, with the goal of developing patient stratification models, prognostic and predictive models, and clinical decision-support tools.Example use cases include patient selection for advanced therapies and data-driven strategies to safely optimize treatment duration.In addition to tabular data modeling, the role offers exposure to Deep Learning techniques and multimodal projects, potentially involving medical images and unstructured clinical text, in collaboration with other teams within the Humanitas AI Center.You will work closely with senior data scientists, clinicians, and researchers, contributing to the full data science pipeline: from data exploration and feature engineering to model development, validation, and interpretation.About the Humanitas AI CenterThe Humanitas AI Center focuses on research and development of AI-based predictive and decision-support systems to improve clinical care and optimize healthcare processes.Our activities span multiple domains, including clinical data modeling, natural language processing on electronic health records, and medical imaging.We are a multidisciplinary team of data scientists, engineers, clinicians, and researchers working closely with hospital departments to translate AI research into real clinical impact.ResponsibilitiesSupport the development of machine learning and deep learning models for clinical prediction, prognosis, and patient stratificationPerform exploratory data analysis (EDA) on clinical datasets and contribute to data cleaning and preprocessingImplement and evaluate ML and DL models using structured/tabular data, and potentially images or unstructured textContribute to the use and extension of internal ML frameworks (e.g. MOSAIC)Collaborate with clinicians to translate clinical questions into data-driven solutionsProduce clear data visualizations, reports, and presentations for both technical and clinical stakeholdersSupport documentation, reproducibility, and good software practices in research projectsSkills and QualificationsFluent in written and spoken English (Italian is a plus);Master's degree (PhD would be a plus) in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, Bioinformatics, or related STEM disciplinesBasic to intermediate knowledge of machine learning techniques (e.g. regression models, tree-based methods, ensemble models)Solid foundations in statistics (e.g. regression, hypothesis testing, model evaluation metrics)Proficiency in Python for data analysis and machine learningExperience with common data science libraries: pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, scipyFamiliarity with Deep Learning concepts and frameworks such as PyTorch and/or TensorFlowAbility to work with structured clinical datasetsNice to HaveExperience with Deep Learning projects involving images (e.g. medical imaging) or unstructured text (e.g. clinical notes, reports)Exposure to natural language processing (NLP) or computer vision methodsFamiliarity with survival analysis, time-to-event modeling, or longitudinal dataExperience with version control systems (e.g. Git)Basic experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure)Familiarity with containerisation technologies (e.g. Docker)Basic knowledge of SQL or working with relational databasesPrior experience with healthcare or clinical dataSoft SkillsStrong interest in AI applied to healthcare and clinical researchCuriosity and willingness to learn from senior colleagues and cliniciansAbility to work effectively in multidisciplinary teamsAttention to detail and commitment to data quality and reproducibilityGood communication skills, especially when explaining results to non-technical stakeholdersWhy you should consider this opportunityHumanitas Research Hospital is investing in data driven research and development of clinical support tools based on AI, you will contribute to the design and application of breakthrough technologies to be deployed in advanced clinical institutions.You will get access to an extraordinary group of talented and passionate people coming from fields ranging from clinical sciences and healthcare management to informatics, bioinformatics and engineering, including our extended international research network.Contract and durationWe can offer a fixed-term contract.Contract duration, salary, as well as employment level, will be defined based on candidate's profile.All candidate data collected from the application shall be processed in accordance with applicable law: Dlgs ******** e dei Dlgs ******** e ********; privacy ex artt.13 e 14 del Reg.UE ********.#J-*****-Ljbffr
